I think Apple are taking the MS applications too far by using MS errors!

One might be tempted to point out that even Microsoft haven't got the balls to charge £30 for some bug fixes....

I've just spent the last six hours or so playing music through my MBP, Cambridge DAC Magic, Nait 5i and little Epos 3 speakers that I use in the flat.
I have to say it has been a most enjoyable listening session and the music is just flowing wonderfully and I have to say this system is sounding better than it has ever done!
So, why am I posting in this thread? Well, I upgraded to Snow Leopard and posted earlier to say that I had noticed a difference with the "casual" listening I had done. I was listening more closely today (actually the music sucked me in and forced me to listen) but it is sounding damn fine.
The problem is that I added some NACA5 a couple of weeks ago so I can't tell whether it is SL or me getting used to the benefits that A5 brings.
Damn fine anyway!
Cheers
Jim

snow leopard is free - you are paying for the dvd, shipping, box etc. even ms charges 20 quid for a dvd.

I wasn't aware it could be downloaded for free, like a MS Service Pack.
Or that the DVDs can be installed on an unlimited number of Macs, at no extra cost.
Many thanks for the correction.
It's just confusing that the Apple store sell a "Single User" at £25, or a "Family Pack" at £39, and Apple call it an "Upgrade"

Be careful when using Software Update to upgrade your Mac. It rendered one of MacBooks useless after the update, basically it did not see the boot device, Finder could not be started, I could not not restart or shutdown my machine by using the top level menu. Only after after I restarted my machine in single user mode, performing fsck and then rebooted into safe mode, re-applying the upgrade with the image from Apple's download site then machine eventually got back to OK state.
Keep your fingers crossed if you decide to go ahead with the Snow Leopard patch.

No issues at all. Upgraded two with SL and the subsequent update, together with iTunes 9.

"Dunno whether to cal it great service or crap testing.... Eek"
It would been interesting to have been a fly on the wall when the decision to "go gold" with Snow Leopard was taken during August or late July.
The majority of the contents of 10.6.1 would have been identified and could have been included but it would have meant a delay of 3 or so weeks. So what was the reason they jumped early.
Was it a need for a revenue jump (even though the amount per copy is very small)?
Was it to grab the headlines from Windows 7
Was it to clear the way for some new hardware that was going to have SL pre loaded on it?
We shall probably never know.
Re Software and testing - software is never out of Beta, there are always bugs in software, every one hopes that they do not appear and bite the user.

Derek
I think all three of your points about the decision to go for a set date are too accurate for the comfort of Apple.
My point is that the computer is just a tool, not a religion.
