Naim only fit for rock?

Over here in Singapore, the general audiophiles have some sort of common impression stuck in their head that Naims only do pop/rock music well and nothing else.
Although most of my Naimee friends know it's not true, it's not the general audiophiles fault totally. It's also partly due to the way the Naims are presented in the hi-fi shows as well dealer showroom. They use pop/rock music for demo and play it really loud most of the time. But then again doing so would get lots of rock music fans enthralled by the Naims. I am one of them.

Is the Naim demo in your part of the world also presented the same way? Does non-Naimees also generally have that same feelings towards Naim?
Just curious.

Strange!
After listening to some loud rock music, enjoying the drive, power and slam of my little Nait 3r, I always get a big surprise when I put on some classical music, it sounds so natural and real!
Its like my amp is a cameleont! The tiny Nait 3r has surprised me for many years now, sounding excellent with all kind of music! (after being capped that is)

the myth about Naim only good at rock music is after all a myth...
Let's spread the facts to the non-Naimees

Just to add to the debate, I don't think classical music has the same attack as rock by nature of the instuments and recording methods used. Notes from bowed string, and wind instruments don't have the attack of an electric guitar. Even pizzicato strings have a much slower attack than a plectrum. Percussion tends to be used in a different way in classical music, again with less speed of attack. Also much closer miking or direct-input to the mixer is used for rock.
So faster gear like Naim is better suited to rock.

Been listening to a Smetana String quartet a lot recently on a v. modest naim system and anyone who can sit on my sofa and tell me naim doesn't do classical well would have to be mad.
S'ppose the whole argument may be based on the fact that a lot of classical music is very rhythmic whilst other pieces are completely melodic. Maybe naim more suits the former to some ears. Most people who "don't like" classical music assume everything from the 15th to the 19th century sounds the same and comes under the classical banner.
Will modern pop music be classed as classical late 20th early 21st century music in the distant future? How would the entry in the 2203 Dictionary of classical music read?
"Pop music - 1950-2050. Short lived period of largely non-secular, electronically produced music played in ensembles of 3 to 10 musicians. Generally keyboard, guitar and percussion based short sequences mainly with vocal accompaniment. See also Beatles, Rolling Stones, Blazin' Squad"

A musical system will play music. The genre is irrelevant.
quote:
I think Naim is the only gear that can play tunes correctly regardless of musical genre.
Naim is one of a handful of manufacturers that can play tunes correctly. It certainly doesn't have any monopoly on this.
Rega, Densen, Linn, DNM, and Primare all hold a tune as well as Naim, imho.

Steve.

This one has appeared many times before.....I listen to mainly classical music...the qualities I require are the same for all types of music...timing, dynamics, seperation....etc. I can understand why some think Naim will only do rock. A badly set up Naim system will often sound shut-in, excessively "dry", and will not present tonality natuarally. Since a large proprtion of rock music is recorded in a way which pays little regard to "natural" sound then the limitations of a badly set up Naim system will not show its shortcomings in such an obvious way, compared to classical music. However, if the trouble is taken to optimise the "environment"...i.e. support, mains supply...(especially mains supply!), etc then I can testify that Naim equipment can and does beat all other brands with EVERY musical style
