Flatcap 1...with Nait 5

Posted by: Vaughn3D on 16 January 2004

My current system is comprised on original Planet, Nait 5, naca5, Audio Physic Spark III. I may have a small amount of $ to spend, and was thinking of a used Flatcap 1 to match with my Nait. I am wondering a FC1 offers the same performance as a FC2. I will have no need to power two pieces of equipment, as I have no plans to replace the Planet anytime soon. I am open to suggestions. thanks

Hello,

I also have a Nait 5. And I have upgraded it by adding a NAP 180. The NAP 180 has a hugh transformer, it is said that the preamp power supply of the NAP 180 is roughly equal (in sound) to the Flatcap 1 (I have never heard a Flatcap 1). The NAP 180 will be a little more expensive, but you also get more power.

And a different sound, the NAP 180 sounds much faster (I like it a lot). This is a choice. You are not afraid of mixing old and new. Thus, think about it.

Do not buy a NAP 140. It is a great amp, but not a great power supply for the preamp. I do not know about the NAP 150 and NAP200.

Greetings, Hans
