Come back Mick Parry

Admit it, it is not the same without him.

Even Fritz's prodigious output is dropping without his favourite foil.

Dear Nic,

I have never quite understood why Mick seems to put people's back up. Never has he put mine up even I don't always, or even especially often, actually agree with him. Earlier I made a point here in the Padded Cell, that there ought to be room for a rounder collection of characters than actually seem to be liked, room full of Yess Men, and Mick certainly is not a Yes Man, so if your are reading this Mick, there are apparently two people here missing your input!

All the best to everyone here, including those who find me possitively ante-deluvian, and little too un-PC! Fredrik

where did he go?

Phil

Doubtless he's occupied sorting out the Chinese.
Posted on: 24 January 2006 by Earwicker
He's probably on the piss, knowing him!

Mick who?
Posted on: 25 January 2006 by Bob McC
I believe he is currently resident aboard MV Astoria, hosting tea dances in the Elizabethen ball room where geriatric old ladies present their card to him and in return old Mick wheels em around the floor for a slow waltz. He does this every year and then comes back and tells us all he's been to Egypt on a cruise!

Intellectual superiors, superior personas?

Would someone please explain or better still, define what exactly constitutes a superior persona?

Nice one Fisbey.

Empty vessels spring to mind...

So Mick's intellectually superior is he?

EW

An amusing irony: people who claim intellectual superiority are, by doing so, intellectually inferior...

Surely a true intellect would be capable of interacting with all levels of intellect without issue.

Mick may be bonkers, but I kind of miss him in a strange way. Where can he be?
Posted on: 25 January 2006 by Fisbey
Mike - You claimed Mick Parry was/is did you not?
Posted on: 25 January 2006 by Fisbey
This thread (in my opinion) is pointless - now I remember why I don't post much anymore - it's a waste of my energy - no offence intended of course.

Chaps

I must admit surprise at being mentioned as I thought most of you would have been pleased to see the back of me.

I hardly come on here nowadays and have been spending hour after hour listening to CDs and LPs that I have not played for years. This evening, for instance, I have played an old Louis Armstrong LP and a Jacques Loussier CD.

Both were brilliant and the music is what this hobby is all about.

Naim make brilliant equipment and I have spent the last few weeks listening to it and intend to listen to a lot more of it in the future.

I think you are all doing fine without me so all the best and try to listen to more music.

Regards

Not true. Glad you reported in for light duties.

All the best

Seconded.

The reason for starting this thread, was my sadness that a fellow forum member has felt the need to go into a self-imposed exile as a result of the increasingly numerous and vitriolic comments of some other members.

I do not pretend to know the history of the discussions and arguments that have gone on previously, that have caused the clear enmity between these members, but it does seem to be disproportionate.

Surely everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, however robust, as long as there is a cogent supporting argument. No doubt someone will state that you reap what you sow, and that Mick deserves what he gets, however some of the jibes have bordered on the malicious or have simply been infantile.

I joined this forum to find out more about hi-fi, as there are clearly some very knowledgeable members who devour the technical stuff and regurgitate in a simplified form for the likes of me.

The bonus for me was finding the music and padded cell forums, which have guided me in number of excellent soft and hardware purchases. They have also given me some really good insights and some healthy belly laughs.

Perhaps the very nature of the virtual anonymity the internet forum provides, is the key to why otherwise perfectly reasonable individuals turn into keyboard warriors, in a way that simply would not happen in a real life situation “face to face”.

I have not exactly covered myself in glory recently, having told another member to move away in short jerky movements, after swapping comments about the particularly emotive subject of making espresso coffee! It was my first use of profanity on the forum, and I apologise for not giving a more considered view once my irritation had dissipated.

Perhaps we should all consider our responses before sniping long distance from the ether.

Nic

Since composing this I see that Mick is back, welcome home.

Mick,

Glad to see you are alive and well, and still willing to contibute. ( A quick "search" revealed the recent history). I had assumed you must be on a bloody good winter holiday to account for your absence, but listening to music is just as good a reason.

It would be a shame if you didn't pass that 5,000 mark, which in your case is a meaningful quantity, as I know many (including Mike) will agree.

Welcome back, even if it is sparodic for the moment.

And while we're on the subject of "missing persons" or those AWOL, what happened to Ken C, Seagull, Matthew R, Sproggle, Paul Ranson and even Deane/Deanne what's-his-name....

Cheers

Don

I am finding listening to music is becoming somewhat addictive and I have also been belting around looking at speakers but I am finding the Briks hard to beat.

A forum is a living thing and people will come and go and that is healthy and as it should be.

Nic

I did not leave because someone had upset me, I just got into a routine of sitting down and listening to music for a few hours with a few glasses of malt to make it sound even better.

Mick,

Fair enough, things are not always the way they appear. I still think there are some reasonable points in the "sermon" that needed to be made.

Been catching up on a shed load of vinyl myself. Listening to music is what it is all about in the end, rather than looking at the boxes.

Regards

....don't I know it !!! I still use mine from time to time (I won't part with them) and although I prefer my Wilsons, I haven't heard another speaker to beat the Briks. I thought the NBLs came close-ish. I think there are a few on the market today that would rise to the occasion, but not many. The B&W 802D sounded totally transparent (sounds a bit oxymorish?) when I heard them with a cds3/552/500 then the cd555/555ps at Grahams back in November and on reflection might do the trick (so perhaps I HAVE heard another speaker to beat the Briks). i would also be prepared to try Neat and Emotion based on a few favourable reports (other than PB's). And in other systems I have been impressed by the larger Revels.

But I don't think these's any need to rush around to replace Briks, keep feeding THEM a diet of vinyl/cd and YOURSELF the old Tallaskers and water, and what more could you ask?

Cheers

Don
