What's involved with fitting a Prefix?

I have an LP12 with Armageddon and Aro arm. What would be involved with fitting a prefix and would the deck need to be reset or is it something that can be done without affecting the bounce, etc.?

John,
The Prefix screws to one of the plinth webs. If the deck is well set up, in particular the arm lead being properly dressed, then it should need no adjustment.

Willy.

You shouldn't need to reset the springs.
Not sure about that, AFAICT fitting a Prefix to an LP12 removes the P clip - Arm cable - Arm board - Sub chassis configuration Linn specify in their set-up for the Sondek.

On the other hand, buying a new prefix remains an option - and of course I'd then not have to get my paws dirty as RR would do it as part of the purchase price.
John, can't quite get me head around your starting yet another thread with 'Prefix' in the title! So have you actually bought one yet?
Anyone know the current retail for a Prefix K, fitted?

It should be quite easy to remove the aro armtube before inverting the deck, but you also need to remove the inner and outer platters, and plug the bearing to stop the oil dropping out.

Basil - that's my photo you've attached!
Hope you don't mind me using it
In all the set-up guides for the Linn it is stated that the P clip - Arm cable - Arm board - Sub chassis configuration acts as a damper for the suspension.
"The tonearm cable must be routed through the P-clip in the prescribed manner Any other routing will deliver feedback directly to the arm and/or leave the suspension improperly damped."
Whether you will have to adjust the suspension after fitting a Prefix will depend on how well the old Arm cable - P clip set-up was done.
An easy way to check would be to disconnect the Arm cable from the the Arm board and see if everything still bounces that same and remains level.

This is true, but the essence, as your next paragraph points out, is it shouldn't make any difference, in my view, if set up properly in the first place (i.e. the arm lead places no stress onto the existing setup). If it does, then it needs setting up anyway.
