DV139...

Finally, decided to go for the Aracm DV139. Simply superb. CD playback is a bit too laid back. Video picture is shockingly good.

Congrats. How does it compare with your DV78? I also own a DV78 and the DV135 has me interested. Did you get a chance to audition a DVD5?

The DV139 video playback is really miles away. It is hard to judge video playback but once I put a Nemo or Lord of the Rings the difference was significant.
I auditioned a DVD5 (as a CD, didn't see video output) but couldn't justify the price.
I listen mostly to Vinyl but also watch plenty of movies.
I haven't heard (or saw) the DV135. If you have the 1080p TV, I believe the DV137 is much better.

I have a 480p panasonic plasma without hdmi input so I'll likely sit tight for a few years and do a TV and DVD upgrade at the same time once the format war is complete, if that ever happens.
You may find this article interesting. It's an interview with Arcam's president discussing Bluray and HDDVD.

Thx V,
Good article.
Like you I have a 480 panny. I bought a DVD5 as my final SD DVD and will also sit still for another couple of years and see what happens in the Hi Def market. Lets face it the 'standards' are still evolving at a pace!
