Analogue - End-of-side Tonearm Lifter

Posted by: The Shrike on 10 October 2003

It used to be you could get an accessory gadget which would automatically lift up the tonearm once it had reached the end of the record. This had two advantages:-

1) You could sit there and enjoy the mood created by the music you had just listened to, instead of immediately jumping up from your seat to raise the tonearm. Otherwise, you risked excessive stylus wear and your bliss was ruined by the annoying end-of-side tick, tick, tick....

2) If your listening was interrupted by a telephone call, somebody at your door, etc., you could leave the record playing, knowing the tonearm would be lifted up once the record had finished. Otherwise, the stylus could be tick, ticking away for some time before you eventually returned.

Does anyone know if this device is still available and where I could get one in the UK?

Thanks for any replies/info.

I know you want a lifter from the UK, but these:

Ship internationally if you have no luck in the UK.

I still have mine from 20 years ago but sadly cannot get it to work with an LP12 (whose suspension is too prone to setting it off at any time) and I certainly don't think it would work with an Aro. I'd be interested to know what t/ts people have successfully used it with - Gyro/Orbe, SME perhaps? Apart from the easy ones like Rega of course. Excellent device if you can get one and have a non-wobbly deck.

As it happens, I have a Rega Planar 2... a non-wobbly deck, so perhaps Chris would like to sell his Audio Technica Safety Raiser?

Would save me a lot of trouble!

I used the Audio Technica lifter on a wobbly old Logic DM101 and it worked fine.
