Bass disappears?

Posted by: Misguided Fool on 25 July 2003

I am running the following Naim equipment(all about 20 yrs old) and have a strange problem that I was hoping someone could help me with.

NAC 42
NAP 110
SNAPS
with Castle York Speakers connect with A4 cable.

Occasionally when I have been listening to either vinyl or cd, the bass seems to disapear after about half an hour. The volume has been turned up to what I would call a loud, but not very loud setting. The knob only being turned around 25% clockwise. Turning down the volume quite low and leaving for about five minutes seems to correct the problem. I can then turn the volume back up and the problem doesn't happen again.

Hope someone can help

Is there anything I can do about this as it is getting to be quite annoying? The cut out is happening way before the speakers are overloaded.

i think it was some sort of voltage dependent resistor (it sounded a fuck of a lot better not there!!)

In the dim and distant I had a pair of B+W DM14s with such a "feature". Never again!

I found a way to improve the bass of my system:
Put a bloody great wall unit in front of one of the speakers and a blackboard in front of the other.
(Actually we're just reorganising our living room, and the unit is sitting there prior to being sold or destroyed Unit for sale on ebay).
