Depeche Mode 180g Re-issues

Posted by: Whizzkid on 17 June 2007

Hi all

Anybody into The Mode and Vinyl should check out these remastered re-issues they are cracking re-masters. The clarity, weight, texture and emotion of the sound is excellent. A great buy if you can find them Sister Ray in Berwick St, London still has some. They have released every album upto Ultra I think 7 in all.

Hi Dean,

I guess, there are not many mode fans using naim.
They are too busy and spend all the money on all different mixes of DM CD I guess. I am a mode fans since 81. Bught the whole range of the remastered + DVD CDs so afr, just miss the Some Great Reward. Ultra & Exciter will be released in Oct07, I am sure you are aware of that.

The 5.1 version is totally different to the stereo version and the bonus DVD, just well worth it.

Wanted to get the remastered vinyl, but my wife's nephew and broke my Ortofon MC25FL cartridge, less than 30 hours lay, have no plan to replace it at the moment!!!!!

Have you compare the remastered CD & vinyl by any chance?

cheers
Mart

No I haven't compared the new remastered CD's with Vinyl. I have a policy that if the original music was issued on Vinyl then thats what I buy so I had only old vinyl copies when the new remastered 180g vinyl came out. I have Some Great Reward on 180g but no Ultra or Exciter I only have these on older vinyl. Have you compared the CD's to original vinyl I presume you have some. Sorry to hear about the breakage have you got accidental damage on your policy? or you could just buy a cheap MM for the time being.

By the way if other forumites have not Heard The Mode they should just by Black Celebration or Violator and I'm sure they'll soon be buying more.

Another lurking fan hear.

Now that I have just bought a turntable, after 15 years without, the first album I bought was the remastered Violator. Absolutely superb. Lucky for me, HMV in Chester stocks all the remastered vinyl. So next pay day, I hope to add 'Some great reward' and 'Speak and spell' to the collection.

Martin

This threads taking time to get going, are people ashamed to admit they like one of the most influential electronic bands of all time. C'mon boys lets see if you all can still fit into those leather trousers. Cool

Marti

Snap them up while you can.

I definitely admit I like Kraftwerk (the most influential electronic band: surely) and Tangerine Dream and Neu! - just don't feel the same about this lot (don't know why perhaps it's the new romantic association) - quite liked Human League (before the girl singers) and early Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and even Tubeway Army (Replicas). Hated Visage and Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran though - Depeche Mode were/are certainly better than them.

If the remastered vinyl sounds as bad as the 1981-85 CD reissue, I'll stick with my original CD version thanks. At least it's not harsh or compressed...

I'd not mind some of the LPs though - the covers for Speak and Spell and Construction Time Again are ace...

Hi domfjbrown,

I can only speak for the remastered Violator album, but the quality is superb. Much better than the cd version I have. I cannot see the rest of the remasterd albums being any different.

Marti and dom

I have all the recent re-issues and they all are fabulous as I mentioned in my OP. All are in a gatefold sleeve with a write up about how each album came about.

Up the Mode, don't hide them like a dirty secret. If others can't get past the great slice of pop that was 'Just Can't Get Enough' then tie 'em down and play 'em Ultra, Violator, Songs of...etc

When I auditioned my Credos, I took Ultra with me, and the dealers face said it all. Then I asked him to play 'It's No Good' & 'Useless' and he had to do an about turn, admitting it wasn't what he was expecting and that he quite liked it. Andy at Audio Republic is big Mode fan BTW.

My vinyl buying days are long gone, so I am collecting selected albums on CD. Violator & Music For The Masses so far, probably Ultra & Songs next. Not sure about Black Celebration, it's probably one that could do with remastering the most, but it hasn't aged well.

Be proud in your Mode-ness

Just picked up the remastered versions of 'Some great reward', 'Speak and spell' & 'Music for the masses' from HMV on the way home from work this morning Smile

Guess what I'll be doing tonight?

The Mode as I said in a previous post are one of (I said one of ROTF Winker ) the most influential electronic bands of all time and are an essential listen if you like electronic or quality pop music and lightweight they are not. The later albums starting from Black Celebration are more than just a collection of singles but mature pieces of music, prop[er albums if you like. So what you waiting for people have a listen (promotion over Smile ).

In 1992, I **hated** "I feel you", but my musical taste has grown a lot. I'd definitely like to hear their latter output...

I definitely rate "Violator" though (only have it on CD though).

My favourite thing about the "Singles 1981->85" original issue is the quoted reviews of the tracks. On "I just can't get enough", one review simply states "I can, you will". He he he. I do like that track though...

...or some of us still have the original vinyl in decent shape, lurking in our closets next to a tatterled leather jacket and boots–and that old monosynth.

Another big mode fan here - i make a point of seing them on every tour. My wife is not a fan, but agrees they do a bloody good gig.

I have all their stuff on Lp and CD (unless we are looking for rarities, then I may have missed the odd one...)

My 2nd fav band reformed this year - off to see The police in the NIA in Sept...good times...

My roland A90 and U220 set at certain patches does a really good intro to 'i feel u' Big Grin
