Live at the Sands(with Basie orchestra) is an excellent live performance, and would supplement the above recommendations. Those Capital compilations are great, but you probably should have a compilation from his later Reprise years too. For a really unique (and audiophile--24 caret gold CD on DCC Compact Classics) live concert you may wish to track down Sinatra '57 in Concert.

Two melancholy recommendations are...
In The Wee Small Hours & Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely.
Both have great arrangements and Frank at his emotive best.

his Capital years are teh original best, When he moved to a new label he re recorded everything and tired to force radio to play those because he had control of everything.
I got this at Good will for a dollar, I had seen another and had a couple other things in my hands and I thought oh Ill come back for the other. It wasn't there 6 days later. But I did go thru ALL of the crap they had and found a stash of Nat Cole, Sarah and Ella for $1 each. A dozen albums and I gave her $15, She was making change I said no keep the change, you do good work keeping people employed. She smiled and thanked me, glad I could make someone's day better.

'In The Wee Small Hours' is indeed a classic but many of the Capitol albums are indispensable. I managed to get hold of a vinyl box set (20 albums) of 'The Capitol Years'. It cost me £19 in a closing down sale at a branch of OurPrice (Remember them?). The quality of the vinyl albums is not altogether impressive. I heard an original 1960s 'Come Fly With Me' and that was much better. I would stick with the remastered CDs unless you can get good original vinyl copies, which probably won't be cheap.

Certainly not. The original CDs, particularly The Capitol Years are far better. The remasters should be avoided.

"Francis A and Edward K" Sinatra with the Ellington Orchestra.
"Robin and the 7 Hoods" is a Rat Pack movie soundtrack which is also fun.
"Songs for Swingin' Lovers" is classic.

Another vote for the early capital recorded albums. They have the best arrangements, and swing the hardest!
finally this live recording when he hooked up with Count Basie & orchestra is Great! Not only for the music but for the sharp jokes delivered ala Sinatra!
