Greetings/Stageline Questions

Posted by: Naimed-In-NY on 06 May 2003

Greetings. This is my first post. I discovered this forum several months ago while researching Naim and other companies. I have found the forum to be both informative and entertaining. After listening to lots of gear, I settled on Naim and recently purchased my first Naim equipment - the NAC 202 and NAP 200 combo. I love the sound and am thrilled with my purchase. Longer-term upgrades/wishes include a Hi-Cap for the 202 and Naim CD player. My first upgrade, however, will be an NA PSC, which I would've liked to have purchased with the NAC 202, but finances necessitated that I first replenish my audio piggy bank.

Now for my questions. My old preamp had a phono section; the NAC 202 obviously does not. Although I mostly listen to CDs, I still like to listen to records and want to add a phono stage to my system as soon as possible. Unfortunately, my Naim dealer is several hours away and he does not carry my table, arm or cartridge (all of which are of an older vintage). I will demo as best as I can, but any advice from the forum would be greatly appreciated. My questions are:

1. Is the Stageline of the same high quality as other Naim gear? (I would assume it is, but I haven't seen much written about it.)

2. Can the Stageline be used with my 202/200 combo, or do I need to purchase a separate power supply for it?

3. Does the Stageline come with the interconnect to the preamp and/or the interconnect to the tonearm? If it does not come with the latter, does Naim sell its own tonearm interconnect?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can help with (2)

The 202 can be used to power a stageline but of course a seperate power supply would be better.

I am also interested to know the answer for (1) and (3).

Hi,

I am using the stageline MM with a Rega P25 and have found it a vast improvement over the plug-in phono boards that used to reside in my Naim amps. Couple of advantages, mechanical isolation from the confines of an amp being an obvious one, power supplies can be easily upgradable without internal surgery. I have really notice a marked improvement in the sound.

the stageline comes in 2 versions of interconnect for your turntable (other than the obvious MM/ LO MC/ HO MC etc); Phono plugs or BNC. you should specify to your dealer when you buy. It comes with a DIN cable for you to connect to your Naim amp or Power supply.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses. It is nice to know I can use the Stageline with my 202 and start playing records again without having to add a separate power supply at this time (recognizing that the sound will improve when I do). I will address the appropriate model and interconnects with my dealer when I'm ready. If other forum members have any thoughts, recommendations, etc., concerning the quality of the Stageline, I'd sure love to hear them. Thanks.
