What really sad news that one of the nicest guys in Jazz and radio has passed away - 40yrs on hosting Jazz and a great trumpet player
I will miss Sorry I have n't clue - one of the finest radio shows ever made - really up there with the goons - people like this you just can't replace

I'm sorry I haven't a clue how they'll replace him.
He was a fine trumpeter too (although a friend who is more knowledgeable on jazz than I am thinks his greater skill was in spotting talent). His radio 2 programme introduced me to a number artists and records that I treasure.
He will be sadly missed.
regards, Tam

.....irreplacable is right.quote:I'm sorry I haven't a clue how they'll replace him.
I grew up and into Jazz listening to Humph and his band on Saturday morning radio among other programs.
His jazz knowledge and the inimitable way he put it across in his various jazz record programs reinforced and led my jazz explorations.
His wonderfull impromptu humor at all times and especial on '..havent a clue' was a garaunteed source of laughter.
Mavellous wit and intellect....will indeed by greatly missed

Devastating news - I thought he would be there forever. Totally unique, likeable, entertaining and extremely talented, he will indeed be missed.

They won't. In a feature in Word magazine earlier this year the production team admitted the show would only run for as long as Humph was available to chair in his inimitable way. We might have some shows already recorded to look forward to, otherwise its repeats only.

Well, I have to say I think that's a mistake. Willie Rushton was irreplaceable, yet the show has continued to be very funny without him. While whomever the did pick would not be Humph, I still think it could work well.

Deeply sad news.
Nicholas Parsons is no spring chicken either, we are getting near the end of a wonderful era of comedy on Radio, I suspect.
Sad too for lovers of jazz.
