Not actually correct, though, as Rangers are third, having lost against Aberdeen yesterday. But if it makes you feel better..........

I'm a Rangers supporter, but really don't think that much is achieved by your posting. Why not wait and see? If, of course, YDGAF in any event, you don't need to bother about the actual results.

"Keep Believin'", trophy chaser.
If you were a true blue you would know that EVERYTHING is achieved by posting the above.
I also noticed your lack of input on the 5-0 thread......................

I confess I'm not terribly into predictions (not in public anyway!). I think the Gers will do it, but I'm still completely unconvinced by McLeish's abilities as a manager.
Posted on: 15 August 2005 by graham55
I do believe that you can be a genuine supporter without being rabid. To be otherwise doesn't do Rangers (or indeed any football team that you support) any good at all.
Also, I don't mean to get petty, but you'll notice a couple of (supportive) postings from me on your five-oh thread.

Sadly, Graham, you can't be a Rangers fan without being rabid. Let's face it, it's just not cool to be a bluenose.

I disagree - it was exceptionally cool to be a Rangers fan on the last day of last season and all through the summer...
This season it's difficult to call as neither Rangers or Celtic have impressed so far. Both teams will experience several defeats like the one Rangers suffered at the weekend as neither has a decent defence. One of my colleagues (a Celtic fan) was at the Celtic-Falkirk game at the weekend and, despite Celtic winning the game, he was unimpressed enough to doubtful about Celtics chances against Rangers this weekend, despite Rangers losing.
Hearts are certainly the side which has made progress since last season and personally I've found their signings to be rather more impressive (including the manager) that those Celtic have made. Some of the Celtic signings (e.g. Camara and Telfer) remind me of Macari's short reign. Camara is already being described by Celtic fans as one of the worst players ever seen at the club. Telfer looks competent but he's very old and very slow. I did enjoy the brief Celtic European campaign however...
Over the course of the season my predictions are:
1) Rangers
2) Celtic
3) Hearts
4) Aberdeen
5) Hibs
6) Dundee Utd
7) ICT
8) Motherwell
9) Kilmarnock
10) Dunfermline
11) Falkirk
12) Livingston
Paul Dumberts team look certain for the drop - 3 games, 3 losses and no goals is not a good start especially when one of those loses was a 0-2 home defeat to Falkirk.

Typical tim bollocks.
Rangers fans = rabid.
Celtic fans singing IRA songs, celebrating acts of terrorism or spoiling minutes silence = "just a bit of the craic", or "we're only celebrating our roots".
Maybe you believe it Davie but nobody else is fooled by the holier than thou attitude.

....... and we will not mention the fact that a Japanese Imperial Flag was flown at Parkhead the day before VJ Day - apparently to welcome their new Japanese/Chinese (depending on picture evidence) hero.
Graham - you cannot be a "supporter" unless you put money into the club. You do not get rabidity in exchange. That's a statement for voyeurs. You made posts - not input. RTFQ.
There is a difference between "supporter"/"fan"/"fashionable name-dropper".
My top 3 :
1. Rangers
2. Hearts
3. Glasgow Celtic
Relegated : Livingston
Davie - could you please explain to us all (in 1000 words or less) what is cool about being a supporter of a club with a history of :
1. Financial prudence to the point of extinction.
2. The inability to keep a club afloat without PLC status and regular injections of cash from supporters via share-issues (rather than from Board Share-Holders) to prevent receivership.
3. Dubious relationships with terrorist organisations.
4. Paedophilic allegations against youth-team coaching staff.
5. A club that has a stadium worthy of ZERO UEFA stars.
Should make for interesting reading ........ remember, we are talking Glasgow Celtic - not a defence by making a veiled attack on Rangers.
So, what is cool about supporting Glasgow Celtic ?

I think this Rangers v Celtic coolness thread is counterproductive. Instead why not just revel in the fact that we are currently the champions of Scotland, haven't (yet) lost to a pub team in Europe and don't have Mo Camara at left back...

Steve I think you're right and English football fans reading this must wonder what this vitriol is all about. However I'm completely sick of the demonisation of Rangers fans, and the image pushed by the "Celtic minded" that they're everybody's pals, never caused a bit of bother, only sing Irish folk songs, champions of the minority, and all the other shite they go on about. When I see a cyber tim accepting they have a problem I'll regard that as real breakthrough.
I think a lot of undesirable folk follow Rangers. Same with ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. I know a fair number of Celtic fans and they're the same mix as any other club's fans i.e. mainly decent punters but with some nutters there. However I've never seen a cyber tim on a message board admitting they also have problematic fans.
Sorry for getting heavy about this but I'm really fed up up with it.

Boys, don't go all rabid on me. Calm down before you do yourselves a mischief.
And Tom: This cyber tim will stop demonising Gers fans when you all stop growing horns.
Regards,
Davie
P.S. How about a temporary truce here in wind-up central so we can all laugh at England?

A temporary truce the friday before the forces of darkness visit the home of light that is Ibrox? Like that's going to happen...
Posted on: 19 August 2005 by Bhoyo
That would be a very temporary truce, Steve. Just long enough for me NOT to point out your confusion about light and darkness.

Sunny day, nice round of golf this morning, got home in time to listen to Rangers winning 3-1 against the forces of darkness, with two of Celtics most senior players sent off. Nice.

Seems Lennon got more than 1 red card and is going to be in serious trouble. Good example set by the captain.
They do not like it up 'em.

You're disappointing me, boys. No sneering, snarling triumphalism at what, on balance, was a deserved victory? Restraint? A hint of actual joy? If I didn't know beter, it'd be hard to believe you're Rangers fans.

Come on Davie, cheer me up even more by complaining about masonic conspiracies and hun referees. It's hard to believe you're a Celtic fan.
BTW I listening to the Hearts game today and at present they've nothing to fear from either of the old firm, especially given they've got something that neither Rangers or Celtic do i.e. a defence...

Davie,
I'm not one to gloat. I'm enjoying it certainly but gloating's not my thing unless somebody's really been asking for it and you seem like a nice boy!
Check out one tim's well reasoned analysis of the match. If that doesn't bring a smile to your face I don't know what will. If you're not familiar with the ScottishFitba board you'll assume this character's taking the mick but sadly he's for real.
Never mind, 4 titles in 17 years is not that bad! (Sorry I do occasionally gloat )

Dear Teddies (as there doesn't seem to be anyone else on this Scottish football thread):
Maybe living in the subtropics has addled my brains, but I've mellowed since my days of screaming about "masons in the black" and so on. I now can't stand the tribalism on either side of the Glasgow divide (although I get much simple pleasure from the gentle art of the wind-up).
All Celtic games are screened in North America through the magic of Setanta satellite TV and Tim-friendly bars. But it's a mixed blessing when the current team looks so past its sell-by date, uninspired and desperately in need of - ooh, I dunno - shall we say a talismanic Swedish striker?
I'm currently taking comfort in the glorious weather, the girls on the beach, and the fact that it's still only August (even if the season does feel over already for some of us).
Regards,
Davie

Davie,
I saw the goals as clips from Setanta with a Polish commentary which was quite bizarre. You might be surprised that Polish for "Rangers" seems to be "Thegers"!
I know what you're saying about being away from the Old Firm scene though. I spent my first 30 or so years living within 10 miles of Glasgow city centre (I was born in Dechmont Street, about a mile from Celtic Park) and to be honest didn't really notice the bittereness as it was just part and parcel of everyday life. Once you move away from it though it becomes much more obvious and although I still love Glasgow and try to get into the city at least once a month there are aspects to it I don't care for, the religious divide being the prime example.

Inter, Porto and the mighty Artmedia Bratislava in the Champions League. Not too bad.
Posted on: 25 August 2005 by TomK
A very favourable draw. There can't be too many weaker teams than Artmedia left. Let's face it even when they were pumping Celtic it was obvious they were a poor lot and I think the Parkhead result is a more accurate indicator of their quality.
