Dan's tweak fest
Posted by: Dan M on 10 June 2003
Hello all,
Well, I'm not much of a tweaker, but a new washer/dryer installation has given me the oportunity to put in a dedicated 20A spur to the sistem. Should go in later this week. While I'm a little dubious, the additional cost was minor, and so I thought 'what the heck'. I've also picked up a black snaic on audiogon, which will be winging its way to me shortly, to replace the gray one. I'll report back later if I can detect any difference.
cheers,
Dan

But you will, Dan. You will.

Oddly enough, my jaw is still connected to my head and not residing on the floor. The sistem still sounds great to me and I was hard pressed to hear any significant differences with the new spur. If anything, the old way was a little smoother - that is the new spur was a little more dynamic but not necessarily more listenable. Is there a break-in associated with a new spur? Anyone had a similar experience? It may be it's like adding a *cap - after a while you adjust and then really notice it when its not there.
So tweak fest part 2 - "enter the black snaic" will happen on Tuesday if fedex are good to their word.
cheers,
Dan

A but Dan, you see the spur has to 'burn in'
Etc etc.
Another view is that you will get used to the sound..

Not sure your system's had time to warm up properly.

along with the spur did you put in good receptacles. Are you using a power bar? It will take away everything your spur gives you.

Kenb,
The electrician put in a standard duplex outlet from which I have plugged in a NANA recommeded Wiremold strip. Do you have specific recommendations for an outlet - preferably one I can get at Home Depot or such place - or do I need to get "audio grade" or hospital grade.
Prowla,
Yep, your probably right. My point was that just from first listen there wasn't a night and day difference. Perhaps others have noticed immediate improvements and can comment on what they've heard.
cheers
Dan
