A truely under rated singer.

Mrs Mick had an urgent call into the office and this gave me the chance to play some recently purchased CD's whilst slowly drinking some coffee.
I played a Dusty Springfield CD and I was truely impressed by the emotion in her voice.
Admittedly I had the volume turned up and the CDS3 linked into the Briks does produce some good sounds but Dusty's voice really is something special.
Do yourself a favour and buy one of her CDs and you will realise how under rated she is.

Dusty in Memphis is a classic

You are funny sometimes Mick. You show little compassion to your fellow inmates here, but you go all soppy over music to the extent that you feel the need to post about something you've just listened to. I wonder sometimes that you are really the person you pretend to be.
Dusty Springfield is not my bag personally, but feeling the need to tell everyone that what I have heard everyone must hear, I can understand only too well.

Mick,
I found Doris Day to be even under rated below Dusty.

Correcting fools is not showing a lack of compassion, I am improving what little minds, they have got, so they should be bloody grateful.

Move over Darling by Doris Day is the sexiest song ever recorded by any woman and that includes Sarah Brightman.

Wonderful record - yes Dusty was great singer, but I don't think of her as under rated, everybody knows she was a great singer, surely.

Should one aim to "correct fools" if one doesn't spell 'truly' properly?

Mick,
Actually, I prefer her work BEFORE she became a virgin.

Pish!
I spit on your Doris Day and Dusty Springfield. Julie London - now there was a talent!

Excellent irony
Rasher don't break his rose coloured specs. He really believes it.

See my posting above re his failing. Obviously, he's a bit of a fool himself.

If Shirley Collins in underrated then she is a truly underrated singer
Folk Roots, New Roots was probably the most influential album that I ever heard and without it I doubt there would be any Fairport Convention, Pentangle or Albion Country Band and the worl would be a much poorer place.
Shirley's Anthems of Eden album is equally important and its use of original instruments with the help of Christopher Hogwood is exemplary.
So whilst I agree with all the accolades bestowed on Dusty, I think more should be made of Shirley Collins.

I agree Shirley Collins is underated just like many others. All I am saying is that Dusty Springfield is very under rated.

I think the point being made is that neither is better/more underated than the other, just most people would have heard of Dusty but few know of Shirley.
Enjoy them both is a good plan though.

I think you mean 'hear hear!' The expression evolved in the Houses of Parliament. When someone was speaking and the other side was makng a din the supporters of the person making a speech would shout 'hear him, hear him!' and this became 'hear hear'.

I'm not sure I agree that Dusty was under rated. I wouldn't compare her to say, Nick Drake prior to Nick's rediscovery due to the Volkswagen commercial.
Dusty got a good amount of radio airplay and had some hits that were heard and enjoyed by many people on both sides of the Atlantic. Wasn't her rendition of the "The Look of Love" on the popular movie, Casino Royale? Many people did that song (Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66) but Dusty's version was popular and sold well as a single. At any rate many consier her rendition to be the best of all.
She was, especially during the mid to late 60s a rather well known female pop star. During the early 70s she became less important in pop music. By pop music standards she had a good run in the pop music world with a number of hits. That's not exactly what I refer to as under rated.

Yes it was the Dusty Springfield OBE version of Look of Love in Casino Royale.
Still Nothing has been proved - it's a Scandal.

Mick, the punctuation could also be improved
Not too sure about Dusty, I find her voice quite dull. In terms of voice (though not always material) I think Karen Carpenter is pretty much peerless.
