Editing one's own posts
Posted by: J.N. on 09 April 2006
I seem to have lost the ability to do this.
Anyone else?
John.
It seems that I can edit (but not delete) this one.
Is there a time limit on editing one's own posts?
And why is the 'Delete Post' option still not active?
John.
PS. My personal 'permissions' in 'My Space' does not have 'Edit/Delete Posts' ticked - but it seems that I can edit posts within a time limit. Is this the usual configuration for all postees/groupees/Naimees?
Adam - please help!

Dear John,
I think it is possible to edit a post up to 40 minutes from sending the original. Naturally, being a typographical failure, this means I see things, days later, I want to alter! I simply cannot see it straight off...
I can't delete either, but am learning to not post rather than wish I had not. I was browsing some old ones a few days ago and see that I was revising some of mine about a week later in the old days. It was only ever to clarify, but maybe some people might actually insert things that ought not to be and that would create a nightmare for Adam to surveying not only the posts but all subsequent re-editions. I wonder if that is why it has been tightened up.
You have email,
All the best from Fredrik

Hey guys, Senior Moderators probably switch off the ability to modify our posting when they are not arround so that we cannot say something controversial or banned and then quickly erase it. Call me cynical. I believe in the existance of UFO's.
Or maybe this applies when someone has replied to it?

Morning John,
Apparently the forum software does not allow the delete option to be used if you are able to edit your posts. Adam set the editing "window" to 40 minutes as he feels that this makes moderation more of a manageable task.
So, in short, you should be able to edit - within 40 minutes of posting - and if you want to delete your post, edit it down to an asterisk or something so that Adam can then delete it.
HTH.
Cheers,
Jon

Smells like looks like and probably taste like. As I said elsewhere other fora seen to manage with their patrons being able to edit,Anarchy has not broken out and the world continues to turn.
Obviously you NAIMEES are not to be trusted.
40 minutes would be OK if you see the error or want to change a response and are sitting on your PC for 40 minutes following a post.

Think before you write, edit before you post, spell check in Word - live with it.
