My knob comes off when I twist it

Problem ...

On my 72 Pre-Amp the volume control was all loose. So I took the rubber cover and plastic cap off to tighten up the little screw. So far so good. Now when I put the plastic cover and rubber surround back on its all loose.

The rubber outer is different both ways around. Ie. there is a raised section in the middle and the width of the rubber is different on each side of the ridge. Looking at the other knobs it appears as if the plastic cap goes on the narrow side. Either way it is all loose and comes off. Being a muppet I decided to take the one on the source selector off to have a look. Thats okay but not perfect.

Do I need to use some adhesive? Am I doing it all wrong? Should I be taken out and shot?

Thanks, Andrew

Andrew

My advice would be a quick call to Naim, maybe if Paul sees this thread he will take pity and post you a new one FOC.

I have a chrome bumber 42.5 and threfor do not have the luxury of the rubber surround.

Nou doubt somone will be able to advise as to the remedy.

Does it sound any different with a loose knob?

Sound quality is unchanged as far as I can tell

It must a 72 thing. Selector knob has done the same thing after not being able to select anything. After tightening the screw the knob does not hold together very well.

Did you check your allen screw?

IIRC, there is a flat spot on the 72 volume control and the screw should mate up with that flat spot. Tightening it should solve your problem and the rubber surround should fit back on just fine. Are you saying that your rubber surround is "too big" for your knob?

Sorry, should be serious, but hey, it's still holdiay time over here; going slightly 'troppo' with the heat. Hope you get it sorted. At least as regards getting the rubber surround properly fitted to your knob.

Cheers,

Further comments ...

I'm not sure if the rubber thing is too big for my knob but the plastic cover bit in the middle falls out.

I have aligned the plastic bit correctly (otherwise the volume grove wouldn't line up correctly).

I also washed the rubber bit to make sure it wasn't finger grease that was causing the problem.

Naim service is f*cking brilliant Smile

My CDX drawer was sagging a bit. I told my dealer about this, he wasn't sure about the cost of any replacement bits.

At a show that I didn't attend, one of those nice Naim admin guys slipped a part into his pocket for Yours Truly which happened to be some kind of drawer stop.

My dealer opened up my CDX to find that the drawer stop was ok, but it had moved a little under its screws. It was a quick job to realign it. FOC. Smile The replacement drawer stop is now in the Parts Bin in case of further need.

Then I lost my CDX transit lock when I lent my entire sistem to my BEST Mate for his first born's Christening party (and installed it chez lui ) in advance, as some kind of penance, as I'd already booked that weekend off to go visit esteemed forum member Peter Stockwell in Paris...

A replacement lock was then sent to me via my dealer, also FOC Smile a few weeks back. There was certainly no rush as my CDX doesn't travel as often as I do.

Naim service is the Dog's Bollocks, no question.

Regards,

Steve.
