The most sensible step would probably be to get a HiCap. It will do great things to the 72. I've never seen a CD3, but I suspect you could also use the HiCap on that and then decide for yourself whether you prefer the source or the preamp improvement.

Even though I'm a source firster, I agree that the hicap is the way to go. A better CD palyer will just allow CD-hash to screw up the 72 more....Or get a turntable!
