War Of The Worlds @ the O2

We went to see Jeff Wayne's the War Of The Worlds at the O2 Arena yesterday. If you're a fan of the piece, you simply MUST go see the show. I was a little concerned that they might have mucked around with it a bit and generally ruined it, but overall I had a real blast (blast is right - it was extremely loud, but then I quite rarely get to gigs nowadays, so maybe I'm just showing my age). The show was brilliant fun. The only slight disappointment was that the part of Beth was played by Jennifer Ellison and although she's a vaguely pretty girl, I didn't get on with her part very much, especially with Julie Covington in my head. Other than that it really was great fun, great atmosphere and a generally really enjoyable evening. There are some twee bits of CGI on a screen but after getting used to the twee-ness it's just brilliant fun. Highly recommended.

Hi Frank,

Took the family to see it last year - and it was great fun.

I did feel they could have edged the volume down and improved the show - the sheer volume was masking the musicianship!

Still a great show.

Methinks Jeff Wayne is going deaf...

How did you find the sound at the O2?

I saw Prince there a couple of years ago and I thought the sound was dreadful.

Perhaps it depends on where in the auditorium you are, and/or on who's playing (and therefore what equipment they're using). We were on the left hand side of the stage half way down and the sound quality was excellent.

But it was VERY loud.

Thanks for the reply Frank.

If the sound problems were the PA and not related to the venue I may go back there some day.

The Prince concert was a disappointment purely because of the sound. There was nothing wrong with the performance, but the sound seemed to be driven by big loud thuds which completely masked what the drummer and bassist were playing.

Schizo
