TG24
Posted by: Not For Me on 16 December 2002
I took delivery of my Throbbing Gristle live TG24 box set on Saturday, and deep joy!
An envelope of artifacts, and autographs of the band members are included.
The only live show I saw was at the Scala Cinema in London in 1978, and the initial blurb said that the tape of that event was destroyed, but someone has sent in a bootleg of it, and Chris Carter has restored it, and it is now included, so there are in fact 25 x 1 hour CDs to enjoy.
I just thought that a couple of you might want to know.

Nice one David!
I got the 4-CD box set of live highlights about 10 years ago, really enjoyed it.
How much was this set?

Does the set have the gig TG did at Heaven (I think it was 23 Dec 1980, and as I recall ACR and SPK supported)?
That was the only time I got to see 'em (I was a mere 18 at the time, just done my mock A levels!!!).
I saw Psychik TV a couple of times, but they were as nothing compared to tthe mighty Throbbers!

No, unfortunately, it doesn't include the live set at Heaven.
The time I saw them was with Monte Cazaaza and The Leather Nun, and neither of this are on the Scala CD, only TG.
THe initial price was about £190, but I got a discount as a Wire subscriber to £151.
Incidentally, The latest Wire mag has a two page review of the set.
I am a big TG fan, and have many other TG releases (nearly all the ones I have ever heard of), including the previous live 4 x CD, some of the live cassettes and dodgy CDRs and some rarities too. The only record I have not been able to track down was the backwards mastered version of the Second Annual Report LP.

For those of you sick of Xmas spirit, Resonance FM (104.4 FM) are having a special event on Xmas day ...
They are playing the whole 24 CD set of TG24, with additional commentary from the band members.
This is on the radio in London, and on the net www,resonancefm.com for those of you with an internet.
One to stay in for methinks! Or not ?

Might give it a listen! That'll piss everyone at home off, makes a nice change from Wiz of Oz//Sound of Music/Great Escape too.
I used to have the LP you mentioned, it was on Fetish Records (a re-release back in 82). I also used to have the original of 2nd Annual Report, but, as a poverty-stricken student, I sold both of these in 1985 (along with a 7" of JD's Ideal For living) so I could eat.
I wish I'd have gone hungry now.
Oh well
Kevin
PS - what's your fave TG LP? I'm rather fond of DoA, 20JFG too.

Hmm..
A cop out answer is studio = DoA, and live = MIssion of Dead Souls.
Did you used to be on the Industrial News mailing list? (Snail-mail list, pre-Internet!). I used to get regular postcards form the TG members, and bits of mail art which I wished I kept.
I still have my JD Ideal for Living - I stayed hungry as a student and ended up with a big overdraft to pay off!
Some TG bits fetch silly prices - I wonder how much the Sordide Sentimentale "We hate you little girls 7" and magazine I have is worth?

David, I recently sold a spare Sordide sentimental Durutti Column on eBay for £100. I would guess that the TG single is worth mor than that but less than the (genuine) JD one, which I saw up for sale earlier this year for £160. So I guess about £120 or so.
I think the rarest TG artifact would be the 24 Hours set of cassettes in a case which came out in the early 1980s - well over £200. if you could find one, that is...

Kevin,
(I address this personally, because not many other Forum members will be interested!)
I have been digging around in my archives, and Lo!
I have a cassette recording of the TG set live at Heaven on 23/12/1980! It is on "Rough Tapes", Copy 9 of 250.
If you would like me to CDR it, I could send you a copy.
Email me privately with your address, and I will do you a copy. My e-mail address is in my profile.
I also remember taping a Channel 4 documentary once which featured TG in Heaven, now, if I could only find the tape.....
