Google energy...

So it's reckoned 2 Google searches generate about as much energy as boiling a kettle....

I've just added this to the energy use thread in HiFi also....Certainly puts the small amount of trickle keeping certain appliances on 24/7 into some sort of perspective..!

well it's beyond me to understand the math and how it is calculated, but lets say you're trying to get the best refrigerator, driving around town to 3-4 stores to check them out is time consuming and expensive, taking public transportation to same stores is an all day affair. The local library wouldn't be up to date unless you read something like consumer reports and that is a lot of paper involved then the phone calls for prices.

Sitting at home multi tasking and a few google searches saves time. Eventually electricity will be generated more efficiently and equipment will be rated as to power usage. My old G4 Mac is much more efficient than most, but the new iMacs are even better. Designers will have to face making equipment more efficient in the future.

I think Naim kit with conservative rating is efficient compared to those big honking mono amps of yore. I read an article about a man that built a room to house his Media equipment and had an AC unit installed just to keep it cool enough. YIKES!

I just replaced my old refrigerator with energy efficient one thru a recycle program with our power department. Next will be my old stove which has 2 gas pilot lights burning all day. I took out my old window air conditioning unit 2 months ago and next summer I'll buy a more efficient small one for the bedroom and just cool that in a heat wave.

You might be able to get some sex, though!

Boy George wouldn't approve!
