MacBook or Notebook PC?

I would like some help with choosing a new lappy.

I have always used PCs in the past, and have no experience of Macs. However, two things are making me wonder whether a Mac would be better for me going forward. The first is that I am getting more into digital photography and understand that Macs offer more possibilities in terms of handling images. The other is that I already use iTunes (albeit mainly just to transfer CDs to my iPod at this stage).

Otherwise, word processing, web-access and web-mail would be the main uses. I have also read that the Macs are more stable, although to be fair, I've been lucky with my PCs in the past.

Anything else I ought to consider?

I assume I would have to buy Windows Vista if I felt I needed it. How do the Mac operating systems and desktop software compare? I would be interested in using it wirelessly both at home (netgear router) and wherever I can get wireless access away from home.

Some info in layman's terms would be very much appreciated.

Apple did make laptops with handles. Do you not remember the 'clamshell' iBooks that were around in various colours 7 years ago. They bounced very well.

I've used Apple for over 13 years now, through the bad times (when it looked like the company would fold) and the current good times (Steve Jobs really turned things around when he took his baby back) and I would not use a PC given the choice. PCs are everywhere at work (school) but slowly Macs are increasing in numbers (music, media studies etc). I have a Powerbook to run my Interactive Whiteboard and the software is so much better than the PC version. Just look at Mac Office and Windows Office - Mac everytime.

Give most people a Mac and a PC to use for a week and they would not give the Mac back. It is that simple.

I don't own a mac pro (yet), but due to apple having Logic8 (within studio 8), then that's where my money will go.

Car-wise, the analogy is way out, as one persons merc runs fine, when another's runs like crap!
