More Domestics - Steam Irons
Posted by: Diode100 on 07 October 2005
Now that vacuums and kettles are sorted out does anyone have any recommendations for steam irons, we seem to goo through one every 18 months or so, and these seem to be getting progressively larger, heavier, and unwieldy.

Which? tested steam irons from
Bosch Sensixx Comfort TDA 8307
Bosch TDA 1503
Breville Diva IR4
Haden 10611
Hinari Lifestyle IR2 10S
Home-Tek HT 614
Imetec No Stop Vapour
LauraStar Steamax
Morphy Richards Turbosteam 40503
Morphy Richards Ion 40551
Philips Mistral GC2 110
Rowenta Professional Luxe M 825
Russell Hobbs Classic Vertical 4680
Tefal Ultraglide Diffusion 90
Apparently, the The Tefal Ultraglide Diffusion has vertical steam, a self-clean feature, burst of steam, and more steam vents placed at the tip of the soleplate for better performance in tight spots such as collars, cuffs and edges.
The Rowenta Perfect is highly rated but costs about three time as much as the Tefal.

Ever considered a steam press? Often a small iron is attached for the fiddly bits.

Forget active audio systems, how about an active ironing board?
I saw a demo of one of these in a department store, and as far as ironing goes, it was mind boggling.

Just don't bother ironing. Waste of time.

Just bought a Tefal Ultraglide Diffusion 90 - it is a superb iron - it has a ceramic base rather than metal one (in the Rega P7 and P9 mold) and makes ironing really easy. Highly recommended. I haven't even given it the recommended running-in period as I think it'll get better the more we use it.

Just get the cheapest one from Argos with a reasonably long flex and reasonable number of watts. We've had cheap and cheerful and £60+ versions, they all break after 2 years or so, either from being dropped, from the steam controls going wobbly or from getting furred up from our hard water. No point in paying extra, save some money for a few beers in the boozer or a few CDs.
