WOW! A 5 Year Naim Warranty in the UK
Posted by: Cymbiosis on 24 May 2006
Hello Gentlemen,
FYI I've just received information in the post this morning regarding warranty extension to 5 years here in the UK.
Currntly the warranty is for a two year period on all products, parts and labour.
By filling in and sending back the warranty card enclosed in all boxes from June you'll enjoy a further 3 year's warranty on the parts too!

The warranty extension is retrospective to 1st April 06 as well, so long as you fill in the registration cards or go to the registration section on the website.
The letter also says that all 500 series equipment regardless of when it was purchased, is covered. So, best get registering !!!!!!
Warranty registrationBear in mind this offer is for original owners and hence is not transferable.
I'm sure Adam will post all the details when he get's chance/time.
What great news though!

Best regards,
Peter

Is this all Naim kit? Does this cover kit bought ex-demo too from offical Naim dealers? Looking at an ex-demo DVD5 currently.

In the US, the clock for the warranty starts running from the day the dealer took the delivery.
Is it the same in the UK?

In France the clock for the warranty starts running from the day the gear is delivered to the customer, and it's that day is written down on the warranty card.

Edouard,
Just to be clear, is it for the dealer demo unit as well ?
My previous comments only applies to a dealer demo ( hence slightly used units opposed to the brand new units )

Kuma,
My comment applies to brand new gears.
sorry I must have missed something!
Well how does NANA knows the gear delivered was actually a demo?
I suppose the US dealer gives the full warranty anyways in most cases...
Kuma you never sleep...?

I'd suspect they would keep the record of each demo unit shipped to a dealer.

I would never know since the only dealer demo gear I purchased I ended up trading up for something else before whatever the warranty left on it.
I found out about the dealer demo warranty when I was checking for a friend who'd rather buy from a dealer from the ebay. That's when I also found out that a warranty for the i series gear is only 2 years in the US.

When I bought my first Naim stuff (42/110) I was told by my dealer that in her experience Naim had an unwritten lifetime guarantee; anything that failed was quickly repaired free of charge regardless of age. The very few problems she had ever seen with Naim equipment were sorted in a manner that suggested Naim were genuinely astonished that their product had failed - and fell over themselves to put things right.
Experience has shown me that Naim equipment is indeed a paragon of reliability and build quality so I find this announcement rather thin and uninspiring.
Personally, the Naim that I fell in love with should be giving Densen (et al) a run for their money and offering a lifetime (or at least 20 years) guarantee. Five years seems tokenistic and, honestly, rather dissapointing.
Come on Naim, where has your pride gone? Did it pass with JV?

Hi Peter
It is excellent news in my view the only exceptions that I am aware of is the laser assemblies in CD/DVD drives which only carry a 12 month warranty although it is my intention to check with Naim HQ after the holiday weekend to get clarification on that.
I take the view that ex-demonstration Naim equipment when sold to a customer that he/she becomes the first owner of the equipment and will therefore be entitled to the full 5-year warranty, or at least that will be our policy here.
Whilst the reliability of Naim electronics is indeed legendary SimonJ (Hi Simon long time no see) may be wise to ensure a 5-year warranty on Naim AV equipment as some products still have issues.
The Densen warranty sounds absolutely great, but take care, the “lifetime” warranty may mean that Densen send a “Hit-man” round to take you out if you report a fault.

Best wishes

Hi Norman, I'm shocked to learn about your thinking on the laser assemblies as the longer warranty is one of the main reasons I'd always prefer to buy a CD/DVD from a Naim dealer rather than second hand. I hope when you get clarification from Naim that that's not the case. I guess in reality it is unlikely to be an issue.
A 5 year warranty on their AV kit will be fantastic as I agree with you that there are still slight enoying issues. This was the reason why I got rid of my first DVD5. I am now however ready to give it a second chance and have another go with one.

Hi Simon
Sorry to hear you became exacerbated by the DVD5, but most of the issues were software related and have been by & large put right, we organise events here so that as new software comes out we invite all the effected customers over for a bite to eat some good coffee and update the units on mass, its great because people get a chance to compare notes on the products and we keep two DVD5’s here (with & without DVDA upgrade).
You would be very welcome to pop over sometime its ages since I saw you and I would love to show you around the place to see what you think and catch up with you generally. You can find my contact details on the naim website.
On the laser issue I will keep you posted as this effects both CD & DVD players.
Warmest regards,
Norman
