An afternoon with Roger Waters

Posted by: markfs on 31 May 2006

Hi all,

I’ve just spent the afternoon, by kind invite from a friend of a friend, at bray film studios in Windsor, where Rog n Co were on the last day of the rehearsals.

I’m still pinching myself. If you are going to any of the concerts you are in for a real treat, they were as tight as a drum!

We were half an hour late! Missed most of the first part. Had to pick my friend up from the Lloyds building and traffic out of London was a nightmare. At least the congestion charge is doing what it promised!!!

We walked in halfway through “the fletcher memorial home”
We missed shine on you crazy diamond, and one or two others. Damn traffic!

“Sheep” was a highlight, played extremely well, stonking! With various footage on a huge screen, including the pig moored between the chimneys of Battersea, it all went together really well.
(I think animals is a very underrated album by most people, it’s great, I’m listening to it now.)

This was followed by a ten minute break, then the big screen was lowered to reveal the familiar round screen and a full length performance of the dark side of the moon was launched into! From start to finish! Together with all the floyd graphics on the round screen. It was amazing!
Oh, and nick mason joined the band on drums for this, there were two kits on stage.

I feel like the luckiest boy alive, one of the bands who I’ve always had true admiration for, and two of the main guys are standing ten feet in front of my face, belting out all the music I really love.

The atmosphere of the place was great too, really intimate, with only about 50 to 70 people there, but not enough people to raise the applause needed at the end of the set. A standing ovation was called for.

The mult-channel sound was superb, even in a film studio atmosphere, with bells and tills and clocks and synthesizer throughout DSOTM sounding from all directions.

Nick mason was there to rehearse because he will be playing drums at the magny-cours concert, that will be a good weekend. Floyd on Friday night, then some F1 sat & sun. Niiiiice!

I took some photo’s and will post them tomorrow.

Regards

You lucky, lucky, lucky, ************
So you now have a new Best Friend, eh?! Smile

Thanks fella’s, I do feel very lucky, very humbled by the whole experience.

I do now have a very good friend, he will be king in my eyes if he fulfils the promise of getting us VIP tickets for the magny-cours concert.

Here’s some pics.

I thought I took more photo’s than this, I was also given a friendly warning by someone that to take photo’s, sitting in the front row, while they were playing was not the done thing.
Wouldn’t think a few pics would ruin the programme sales!

I can’t remember all the names on stage, the name of the lead axeman escapes me, but he was absolutely brilliant!
Can’t remember the drummer or saxplayers either, and it was the wife of the saxplayer that got our names on the list in the first place!

Apart from these, there was Snowy White, Andy Fairwether-low, Nick Mason for the second half, our Rog, Waters son Harry (sporting a huge ginger beard) on keyboards, Jon Carin & three excellent backing singers, one of which performed all of the warbling on great gig in the sky, spine tingling stuff

Just after the first half, screen rolled down to reveal familiar round screen, ready for DSOTM

Got this live one, shot from between my knees, as they were thundering through comfortably numb. They played a few from the wall for the encore.

Just after it all finished.

Roger Waters, Harry Waters, Andy fairwether-low, snowy white, Saxplayer.

Me, still quite bewildered from walking out of a fairly ordinary afternoon straight into a full-blown floyd concert.

And, not wanting to get back in the car.

Haven't included the pics of the people i went with, because they all threw sickies to get there(you never know who could be watching), and i cant get mspaint to work!
But a good time was had by all.

Regards,
Mark

Gonna have to try something to get these pictures to work.

BASTARD Smile

I know you're a huge floyd fan TMP, you would have LOVED it.
Posted on: 01 June 2006 by markfs
You are going to really appreciate how tight and authentic they all are together.

I've seen the the normal floyd at wembley stadium, docklands arena and earls court, but this was something else, 12 foot in front of me this was happening, i thought i was going to bend my jaw.

Mr Waters even said at the end, "wre all really nervous about Lisbon, so thank you for coming and helping us out"
What? the pleasure was all ours.

Im not a big poster on the forum, but i thought i definately should share this one with some fellow floyd enthusiasts.

Enjoy the concert, to all who are going.

I think for absolute bastardness and for cruelty to long-time Naim forum members, Mark be banned from the forum.

Hey fella's, I know you don't mean it Cool

I know you're only expressing yer love Smile

Seriously though, floyd is a huge thing to most fans, including me, of which there are many in our land, and i've thought about how much of a micro percentage those 60 odd people on weds represented of floyd fans.

Same as my first post, i'm still pinching myself.

I'm still all of a buzz about it.
I wish all you fans could have been with me, we might have even roused a standing ovation between us!

Mike, what site did you post the pics on?

Wow, thats a good site, a proper floyd forum.
Never came across that one before, only the brain damage site.

Looks like the pics went down well over there.

There's some good stuff in the downloads section too.

Mike,

The one you're going to in Cork seems to be regarded over on the PF site as probably the best one on the schedule because of the limited numbers going, 5000 or so.

That is not many, as far as things go. It's gonna be a corker!

It seems a few people are relying on some sort of laser show too, like you say, if it doesn't happen it's not going to detract from the enjoyment of the whole thing, what i saw on weds was totally engaging and the whole thing seemed to be over in ten minutes.

And there was nowt wrong with Rogers voice either, if it does go croaky'er or not, theres no other voice i'd prefer to hear along with the music than his.

Regards,
Mark
