LP Shelving

Chaps

I am about to arrange for a local chippy to build a purpose built "bookcase" to house my LP's.

The LP sleeves measure 12.5" and the boxed sets are 13" square.

The chippy reckons that I should aim for a 14" deep shelf but I seem to remember that back in the seventies, most racks had shelves 12" deep, so there was some over hang.

My gut feeling is to go for 14" but was there a reason for the narrower shelves.

Regards

Mick one of my record cabinets is very tight for space on the depth, as it has a glass fronted door its a pain as it won't always shut, my other one is deeper an dmuch better.

As you are being given the option I would go for more depth so as to protect the edges from knocks etc.
