New HDX vs Old CDX2?
Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 23 September 2010
Hi - I am considering auditioning an new HDX with XPS and will be comparing it to some extent with my old CDX2 with XPS (which I have loved). I have searched the froum and can find some posts comparing the CDX2 with the original HDX - but not the upgraded one. Also I want to be able to use the HDX's own DAC.
I'd be interested in any comments..
Thanks
Simon

I had a first generation CDX 2 with the VAM 1250 transport and my first generation HDX was better: It had simply more PRaT although the difference was not very great. From what I have heard the newest version of the HDX is supposed to be quite a bit better than the very first version due to a PCI card and memory update...

Thanks John - yes there appears quite a lot of comment with the original HDX.
Is there anyone out there on thoughts or experiences with the new HDX. I see Signals has some comment - but appears to be with the nDAC.

That's my problem too (although far from a problem for me personally). I only have experience running both through the nDAC. I didn't expect to hear much of a difference and so it transpired. What I could hear was significant despite not being vast and favoured the HDX. As John says, the VAM1250 is considered "better". I haven't done a serious comparison for obvious reasons but I've always been very impressed with my early 1250 equipped player and remain so.
