Senior moment!

Posted by: BigH47 on 13 April 2007

Just got home with a library book. Stonehenge by Bernard Cornwell I didn't finish it on last weeks holiday and as it was from the boat's library I left it behind.
Local library got me a copy in a day. So I came home put on my cossie sat in the garden chair settled back only to find I had ordered in error a Spanish translation. Doh!

If that's the worst you've done Howard, you are well ahead of me.

I once went to London for a Conference (from the North East).

I was a week early.

I was about 33 at the time

I'll keep taking the tablets.

At the age of only 25 I once turned up a week early for an appointment!

The circumstances were rather strange, but it was not so embarrassing as it might have been...

I was to meet Alan Hacker, the great clarinetist, at the Bishops Palace in Hereford [where the Bishps actually lives even nowadays] at 11 on one Saturday morning. Unfortunately I was at a 21st birthday party the evening before, and trying very hard to remain sober given that the party was in Carmarthen! A long drive along poor roads unless I was good condition, so I stuck to lemonade at a very boozy do. Very out of character...

I duly arrived at the Palace's fantastically tall heavy front door, fitted with a massive iron dooor knocker so powerful that you could hear the knock reverberating round the hall inside!

The Bishop's son turned up looking rather confused at my explanation and fetched his father. The Bishop laughed uproariously at my error, and said that the concert in the great hall was next Saturday! Fortunately I knew the Bishop, but he never let me forget it!

The real meeting was a delight and caused me to start the double bass, having a good fifteen years of fun behind a "buck-fiddle!" Unfortunately I was then asked to turn the pages for Alan's [fortepiano] accompanist at the concert, so I was just as stressed by it as if I had been playing!

the nearest (to my knowledge) would be "pendejo". However, in this instance that would be pretty extreme.

On a business trip to China, I was to return to the UK before my colleagues as my business was finished. I got the ferry back from Kaiping city to Hong Kong (not pleasant as it was a rough crossing), got a taxi to the airport and made my way to the check-in desk. Upon presenting the ticket I was told I was a day early and had to wait a few hours in the airport to see whether they had a spare seat!! I had lost track of days ands thought my flight was Thursday, not Friday. Luckily they had space so I flew home and arrived early Friday morning, much better than Saturday morning.. Not many people know about that even now Razz
