What do I have? Please help identify
Posted by: Justin on 04 November 2001
I know this is crazy. But I don't know what equipment rack I have. I think it's a Sound Org. stand, but I could be wrong. See picture.
Whatever it is, is it suitable (not necessarily "the best") for a CDX, which I am inches away from buying. That is, will the CDX sound better on whatever this thing is than a cd5+hicap on one layer of Mana?
To answer your questions, once I buy the CDX, I won't have enough money to feed my family, let along buy any Mana stuff.

Your stand appears to be one of the last incarnations of the original Sound Organisation Floor Stand.
I would go for the CDX, but it seems you will need more shelves.

I think you said it yourself. It's suitable, but not necesarily the best.
How does the shelf attach to the frame?
If not already, it'll be well worth tapping for spikes so the the shelves rest on upturned spikes.

I don't know from Mana, but there's a large improvement going from CD3.5/5/Hi to CDX. IMO the large (!) increase in performance is well worth the relative increase in price.

I hear ya!
Craig-
Sorry for going OT-
When the time comes for a Canadian to dick around with tables, (irrespective of performance) I figure it's cheaper for us to buy into Fraim from our local dealer @ the usual discount as opposed to Mana . With Mana there's the 22% import duty, sales tax and shipping.
What do Canucks think?

But i'm bias.
Forget MANA here.
If you prefer to go for less ($ and music):
Quadraspire is now imported by Blue Bird Music, Toronto (bluebirdmusic.com).
The standard line is OK. I have ordered 1 REF to try.
Prices are:
Standard: 890$ can for 5 shelves
Ref: 2345$ for 5 shelves
Both with black columns and wood shelves.
Emmanuel
buy the CDX.

Easy call--get the CDX. (Provided you don't mind pasta for dinner !)

No apology is necessary regarding the OT bit. I value everyone's contributions here on the Corner, unless they are of a troll like nature, or waste space obsessing over others fates.
Judd,
If money is going to be tight after the CDX purchase, then why not track down another SO to hold you over until you are ready to invest in an all new support system. Used SO's can be had quite cheaply.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything that Rob said above. I have two and three shelf SO and an SO wall shelf. They are fantastic VFM.
BTW, what is your P9 sited upon?
Craig
My P9 is no more. I've sold it in favor of getting out of vinyl and into a top quality cd player.
I that's going to create a huge flood of comments, but the facts were these:
1. I only had about 60 LP's, and had not bought any for over a year.
2. an 18 month old and an expensive TT do NOT mix.
3. I like the LP12 more, I think. If I ever get back into vinyl, I'll probably do one of these used. I'm glad not to have soooo much $ tied up in something I just didn't use much.
Nobody judge meeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

God Yes!!! If I had the power, I would ban you from the forum right now.
