2010 Meltdown Festival Director - Richard Thompson
Posted by: DenisA on 31 March 2010

The Southbank Centre has announced Richard Thompson as this years Meltdown festival director.
The eclectic nature of this event has struck gold here and I expect Richard's programme to be thought provoking.
Here is an article from the Guardian and a tribute for the unaware.

I'm waiting with bated breath for his line up.Looks like it might be his (he must pick himself?) only UK appearance in '10.
We have seen him at least once every year for the last 6 or 7 years so need to keep my observers book of of Richard up to date.
Him and Loudon W looks on the cards.

Whilst I respect Richard Thompson, my initial reaction to his announcement as Meltdown Director was one of a little disappointment, especially after Ornette Coleman last year.
I don't dislike his music but it does not excite me either. My guess is that there will not be too much there this year that I will want to attend (good for my wallet) but maybe I'll be wrong and surprised on that front. I await the lineup.

Looks like an improvement over last year to me.

Yes, as I thought not a lot to get me out here except maybe Elvis.

Second try after first post was moderated for the word TeXXy.
Not much to get me out this year after last years lineup. Maybe Elvis but probably not.

That granny software needs a context adjudicator, If you can't use a persons name, their bear or if they are a thug from the '50s!
Re the Meltdown line up, a curates egg? As much as I'd like to see ELH and the others doing Kate McGarrigle songs, maybe the cheap seats?
Loud and Rich is more likely for us I think.

I'm pretty disappointed by that. Maybe 1,000 Years of Popular Music and definitely The Duckworth Lewis method. Otherwise, ho-hum.
