I'm sure someone downloaded all of the old PDFs.

I really hope so. Well, if anyone would like to send them to me, I'd be very pleased.

I don't know if this link is of any help. It's not very reliable, but it seems to have some pages from TFR.

Is it me or my PC or... when the most recent Flat Response site was lauchned I could open the scanned pages,
but they're much smaller than the original ones on the first TFR-site.
(I can't read the text in the scanned files)

Alco

Is this not something to do with Robert the mod on Pink Fish, Trebor is robert backwards.
Posted on: 19 January 2007 by Rob H
Hi guys,
Yes those are both my sites but sadly both are now dead.
The first (link posted by ROTF) dates back nearly 10 years. The second was uploaded a year ago following a poll vote on PFM to bring it back. I no longer have a .mac account so the site has expired with it.
Probably time we let TFR die and fade into history.

Still, thanks Rob for all the work and the pleasure your site gave in those years.

Nah, come on Rob, I enjoyed that site, reading Chris Franklands reviews all over again!
You're not going to put it back up, then?

I'd love to put something back up but in a very different format.
There is so much bullshit offered as good advice on internet boards these days that some clear, no nonsense thinking and reviews such as those penned by Chris Frankland are needed just as much now as in the 80s.
We need something like the Affordable Audio eZine but for flat earthers.
If I can find the time and support....... well is there any interest ?

Ok, lets let this run for a bit.
I'm happy to pay for, write stuff, test stuff and do general admin on such a site, but you can see from the two old sites, my web design skills are not great

Popular Hi-Fi and Chris Frankland are what first got me interested in hi-fi when I was a teenager. Chris was not everyone's cup of tea but he was very clear about what he liked.
I subsequently missed a lot of 'The Flat Response' as I lost Frankland after Popular Hi-Fi finished. I was busy catching up via your website.
I would definitely appreciate your efforts Rob if you were so inclined.
Unfortunately web design is not one of my skills either!
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,
I also grew up with Popular HiFi - still have many of those old issues. CF was remarkably consistent in his opinions from PHF through TFR and then HiFi Review.

How fantastic! Now those I would love to see. Mine all went years ago unfortunately.
As I remember Chris Thomas (now of Hi-Fi+) was his right hand man and Malcolm Steward and Noel Keywood also wrote for the magazine.
I'm getting all misty-eyed!

Chris was the Linnie (he was lukewarm on the SBL and Aro but loved Naim amps) Malcolm was the Naimee (lukewarm on the Ekos and Brik but loved the LP12) and Noel was the measurement man and digital guru.
A nice combination and it worked well.
I was a deciple for many years and even wore TFR shirts at shows and took great delight in upsetting the Absolute Sounds dems
- sort of audio terrorism
Today's audio scene is very uneventful compared to those heady days.

Well here's hoping the 'response' to your request for support for this website does not fall 'flat'!
.....Sorry!

I still have some copies of the British HiFi magazine I grew up with in the late 80's, New HiFi sound.
(lost some of 'em when my parents wanted to clean up the attic once)
They had a nice category called 'the armchair enthousiast' where people introduced their system and how they got to that.
They also had some albums reviews in the back, with sometimes very funny comments underneath pictures of the artists.
Aah, the good ol' days of HiFi

Lovely to see these again. Only small techie hitch is that the pages of the mag are unreadable because they will only open in a small (unresizeable) window. Or is this my fault?

Save the files to a local disk and view them with a graphics program to get round the resizing by your Internet browser (on my system MS-Explorer tries to make them about 2/3 of full size).
