My Collie - November 1984 to January 1997.
Here he is at about twelve months. Proper monkey!
He did not ever quite loose the puppy quality seen here when off-duty, or in fact to ignore English on occasion. He was a fantastic working sheep dog though only for me!

After WW2 my father was in Germany and his commanding officer had an Airedale sp? who was really obedient and stayed in the VW beetle. He left the car and dog to my father. The car never had anything stolen off it because the dog would sit up and growl at anybody slowing down to check it out. Last night in Germany dad stayed at a hotel and the dog started barking in the night and turns out a fire had started and everyone got out alright.
Dad took the dog back to Connecticut with him but dad had to teach the family German commands for the dog. Odd because the family name is Wolf and they come from Boppard on the Rhine. Eventually he visited the commanding officer and turned the dog over to him with full honors and stories. However dog was demoted because he barked during an important review.
Somewhere I"ve seen a picture of the dog, I hope to go thru family stuff and find that one pic. Dad is 88 and failing health but great stories and history.
I love dogs that have a bit of puppy still in them. George you had a great pal for many years.

They are very kind of temerament, but perhaps a little big to keep in a house!
