Problem with CD3.5/NAC82 - earthing?

NAC82 system works fine till you plug a 3.5 CD player in - soon as the interconnect is in place the 82 dies - none of the other sources is earthed and suspect it may be something to do with the Naim CD earthing the pre-amp - perhaps due to something anomolous in the set up of twin Hi-Capped 82

Any help or advice much appreciated

Hi,
Just to assist anyone who can answer Jeremy's question above, the 3.5 used to live with a NAC102(Flat-capped & NAPSC)into a NAP180. The 3.5 has been recently used as a standalone/flat-capped/hi-capped, and has also been used with a non-Naim interconnect as well as the Naim supplied one.
We were using it through this system this morning with no problems experienced...

It played fine on Andy's system this am - really nice. Connecting to Paul's 82 this afternoon whatever order we turned things on. as soon as the 3.5 was live & connected by 5 pin DIN to the 82 all the lights on the 82 go out

Paul's system is more complicated than mine with twin Hi-Caps so I'm hoping it will be OK on my 102 but any clues would be much appreciated

Did you notice Patricks last statement about the shorting plug.

In the previous set up, a flatcap was used, therefore no shorting plug was used.

You will need it in your system and if you don't have it, there will be no sound.

It is a plug which fits in the back of the CD3.5.

This is almost a case of sticking an interconnect into the wrong socket.

I suggest that you give Naim a ring and they will send you a small booklet which shows what goes where. I find it indespensible.

Problem now solved - plays fine on my system - looks like Paul has a problem with the star earthing on his 82 which he is going to speak to Naim about. Thanks to all, particularly Andy
