Murdoch at no. 10

Posted by: David Scott on 29 October 2010

From BBC News website
quote:
News Corporation chief Rupert Murdoch was the first senior figure to visit Mr Cameron after he became prime minister.

Mr Murdoch, whose Sun newspaper switched its backing from Labour to the Conservatives in the run-up to May's general election, was invited in for a "general meeting".

The PM's head-to-head with the chairman of News Corporation was the only formal meeting held at Mr Cameron's office in May, apart from those held with foreign politician leaders.
I'm not having a go at Cameron or the Tories (this time) as Blair was just the same, but isn't this an appalling state of affairs?

Maybe he was just in to show him the new Sky 3D?

Well, just try to imagine that Mr. Cameron and Mr. Murdoch are the same person...

No surprise at all really…

Hitler and Goebbels were the best of buddies too.

Conman-Cameron will use all the help he can get with the Con-Them Coalition.

Take a look at this. It's a page from an Italian newspaper, yesterday's issue.
The picture portraits a REAL cheque given by a member of the Government to the administration of Bologna, for the renovation of local schools.

Do you think you'll ever get to a similar point?
I don't think so.

I can't link to the proper page, you'll have to manually turn them to page 10. Then enlarge the pic.

Max,

Just saw the cheque. I hope you get something better soon.

Yes, thanks. I hope it too. And something is the right word.
That said, I didn't want to steal the thread, so it can go back to happier subjects..

Ah, the same Murdoch who wrote a $2M check to help elect Tea party radicals here in the US.

Recent videos have shown Tea Party private security thugs hand-cuffing and head-stomping innocent people attempting to exercise their right of free speech. They talk of "2nd amendment remedies" and "taking out" anyone who disagrees with them. Makes their earlier talk of repealing the Civil Rights act and creating a modern-day McCarthy commission seem tame by comparison. I fear that the late '30's brown shirt analogies are no longer a stretch... these are very scary times.

Say, aren't there laws against false advertising? Wouldn't calling a bloody propaganda machine a "NEWS Corp" be an obvious violation?

Quite.

As serendipity would have it, I was walking past Downing Street just as Murdoch was driven away from that meeting ( in a government Jag). Odd that it wasn't reported, especially as there are headlines every time Mark Thompson is called in for a meet.
Even I am surprised by the speed with which Cameron is trying to impelent Murdoch's proposals for the future of the BBC

Perhaps it was just a polite reminder about his unpaid tax bill Roll Eyes
