Floor standers to go with Nait 1

Posted by: Lawrence Hudson on 03 April 2002

Hi

I currently have an LP12/Valhalla/Akito/K9, Rega Planet 1, Nait 1 and a pair of Linn Kan IIs. I love the sound of the system but I really yearn for more oomph without sacrificing any of the musicality.

Many years ago I worked part-time for a hi-fi dealer and I've heard my little Nait drive a few other speakers so I know that it can deliver a lot more than I'm hearing at the moment!

I'm planning to audition the Intro 2s and Linn Ninkas. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Lawrence

I have a 32.5/90 which I gather is similar in power to your Nait. I am using it with ninka's and it seems to have plenty of power and work well with them. Worth checking out I'd imagine. I'd be interested in your opinions if you try them. They seem to take forever to break in though - as in at least a couple hundred hours - and I really didn't like them much until then. I wonder if some of the negative impressions reported by other forum members might be the result of demoing inadequately run in samples as some of these comments seem very similar to what I experienced before they were fully broken in?

Good Luck,
Garth

What do you mean by oomph? If you mean the Kan drivers are hitting the end stops with some bass notes (particularly with dance music) then buy some Naim Intros or Linn Katans.

Otherwise you need a better amp with more power. Now that depends on how much you want to outlay.

A Naim 112/Flatcap/150 or a Linn Kolektor/LK140 will really make a huge difference with the Kans.
