SONY NW-A3000

Gary or anyone else who uses this unit; how is it? I almost bought one, but I recall some postings here about the shitty software. Anyone bought and used one? And how does it compare to an Ipod?

Thankx!

Bas, I find the Sony Connect player a royal pain. Slow to load, slow to synchronise and it slows down my laptop too. Not great IMHO, but maybe I haven't put in enough effort to make it work.
I chose the A3000 and Sony compression primarily as I'm away from home for a year and I could take my entire CD collection with me without risking actual CD's. On the storage side of things, it's great. However, were I to start again, I would save the sources in MP3 format and be more selective about what I put on the player.
I use it a good deal in the car, and I'm starting to get fed-up with the navigation system and the disk access time.
I don't really have any experience of using an iPod, bit from my limited knowledge, navigation seems to be smoother.
Hope this helps.
ciao
Gary

Thanks Gary. I did some Googling and everybody seems to be disappointed by the software. I'd rather wait a while then or perhaps I'll Ipod. What a shame, it looks and sounds great!

it's true the software is crap but then you should consider how you're going to use it.
If you want to change what's on the player every day then you're right, it's best avoided.
OTOH, if you're like me then you should be able to live with putting what you want onto the player and uploading new cds that make the cut every now and then.
If you want to use mp3 rather than atrac there's alternative software floating about that let's you copy them over without using sonicstage.

Thanks John!

What I need is this:
- software that doesn't slow up my laptop or generates conflicts (it's primary use is business!)
- preferably software with which I can also burn music cd's at a good quality (right now I use Musicmatch Jukebox)
- preferably the music only on the MP3-player, not on the laptop (I have heard teh Ipod stores music on both?)
- the best sound.

Why is it so hard: just make an MP3-player that looks like the Sony and uses Musicmatch!!!
