England not walloped by Springbok reserves

It wasn't good, though. And, unfortunately, maybe Robinson will keep his job.

Saved by Lewsey and some guts, blood and thunder inspired by the subs.

I still think Robinson's not the man for the job. I was pleased for him personally though, he's a decent man and it was good to see him feeling a little better about things.

Andrew should put him out of his misery.

If you believe there is more kicking in a game of rugby league than union, I dont know what you are watching.

I was watching the union yesterday, Ben Cohen kicked it straight to one of there players, from which they scored a try. It was like ping pong with a rugby ball.

Right Wing.

If you can find, in my question, any indication that there is more kicking in Rugby League than in Union then perhaps you could also find WMDs in Iraq and maybe Bush should have sent you out there instead of Charles Duelfer.

Of course there is more kicking in Union. It is just that your statement. "A crap game, as usual.." suggests a generic criticism of Union as a game. In previous posts you have cited the superiority of League over Union amd I was suggesting by my question that you were making this point.

If this was not your point then I apologise.

I think we all agree it was a crap game and England (and South Africa's) weaknesses were exposed for all to see.

I find union, when played well, far more tactical than league...

Mark, whilst I totally see where you are coming from, I was refering to the south africa game.

Andy, yes Union can be great when its flowing, there are just too many rules for my liking that end up inducing too many stoppages and penalties etc.

When there are very few scrums and penalties, the game can be very good, certainly not so one dimentional like league perhaps.

I like seeing the big crunching tackles that you always get with league, I do find that the union game protects it players a bit more by being much stricter with the tackling which I find frustrating, as often the tackle isnt that bad, the concept of a "high tackle" differs between the codes.

Also, that "mark" rule in union should be scrapped IMO. A team can do really well by applying some good pressure, the defending team then can easily dispose the pressure with the "mark" get out card.

regards

Of course that does come down to the referee's discretion. Mind you the pommy, and northern hemishpere, ref's seem to like the sound of their own whistle and it is these bloody show ponies who ruin a good flowing game...

Exactly. The buggers are always penalising forward passes!

As I said elsewhere, I wasn't able to watch this game. And by the sounds of it - despite a welcome win - I didn't miss much.

I am ashamed to wish a loss on England, but I do have a concern that this scraped win might just serve to keep Robinson in post a tad longer - moan.

When will the RFU accept that he just does not cut the mustard?

England are suffering at the moment from high expectations, after the world cup triumph i think people got a bit carried away and the start of the rot began in the last lions tour of new zealand.
Sir Clive picked a few English players past their sell by and in a display of hubris stubbornly stuck to tactics outdated and unplayable by the squad members he had at his disposal.
England had a team that comes along once every few generations if you are lucky and much as the Welsh team of the seventies became victims of their own success thus followed England, hanging on to star players too long believing that their all conquering tactics would never be usurped forgetting that players like Wilkinson, Johnson ,Richard Hill and indeed the superb pack of forwards come along occasionally and not as a matter of course.
Lets face it apart from the all blacks what other nation as been consistantly great year in year out?
