The end of an era? the split of New Order

For those of us of a certain age the 18th of May 1980 was the end of one great band and the start of another.
Yesterday looks like being the end of that band in turn.

Very droll Mark. You must be recovering then! How was the trip away?

I remember seeing them at one of their very first gigs at Stirling university sometime in the early eighties. Gillian didn't know her sequencer from her arse. A pissed student decided to demonstrate his irritation about this by chucking a pint over her. We were then treated to the spectacle of Hooky's bass becoming acquainted with said student's head.

Ha! Good one!
I remember one gig in about 1983 or 84, somewhere like Margate, when mid-set somebody gobbed at Hooky. He stood there for a few moments, a big dribble of sputum running down his face, when suddenly he jumped off stage, bass in hand and, along with the group's rather corpulent roadie Slim, charged angainst the group of herberts who perpetrated the deed. A large fight ensued, with Hooky's bass again acquanting itself with a number of heads. Hook then walked ccalmly back on stage and reumed his playing.

Maybe this could start a trend
Rolling Stones break up wooo hooo
U2 make a quality recording and split
But seriously New Order were a great band but things do run their course I suppose. Indie bands should take a lesson from Dance and Jazz and have collaborations with over artists to freshen themselves up from time to time especially younger new musicians.
Dean..

Surely the ‘era’ New Order belonged to ended over twenty years ago.
