Enrico Pieranunzi J*** Pianist

Posted by: Oldnslow on 25 September 2006

I have been enjoying several releases by this masterful Italian jazz pianist that I highly recommend:

Live in Paris (camjazz)--wonderful 2 CD live trio set from Paris that displays the full range of Pieranunzi's talents.

Ballads (camjazz)- recent trio with bassist Mark Johnson and drummer Joey Baron. Only the very greatest musicians can pull off a full program of slow ballads, and this one completely succeeds.

Transnoche (EGEA) , late night duets with Johnson. Simply beautiful.

Hope others are tuned in to this wonderful pianist. I rate him right up with the best anywhere, and feel he is at the peak of his powers at the moment.

Oldnslow,

Adrian is a big fan of Pieranunzi. I just ordered last week two of his CAMJAZZ CDs (Play Morricone and Special Encounter) from Italy. I let you know when I receive them.

Haim

Haim--Those two CDs are also excellent, and I'm sure you will enjoy them. Camjazz has done a real service in making most of Pieranunzi's recent work readily available in the U.S.

Oldnslow,

I was on the CAMJAZZ Italian website, and since their prices were reasonable, I placed my order with them.
I am getting 6 CDs, including two by John Taylor who is my favotite piano player. The cost was $15.77 per CD, no tax and free shipping.

Regards,

Haim

Which John Taylor CDs do you recommend? I am not very familiar with his playing, though I know he records for ECM occasionally.

Haim-After visiting Taylor's website and reading reviews, I just ordered his recent Camjazz CD "Angel of the Presence" from Caiman. I may also pick up "Rosslyn" on ECM, which is also highly regarded and I am sure you are familiar with. I look forward to listening to Taylor again, which I haven't done for years.

Hi there,
I'd like to reccomend you another wonderfull cd of Enrico Pieranunzi that has not been mentioned :
Les amantes Label EGEA.
piano, plus the bass of Marc Johnson and in 4 tracks the sax of Rosario Giuliani and a string quartet. Not all the tacks are new some of them can be found in previous album but a couple of them are new.
This is one of the best (in my opinion) Pieranunzi's album.
Regards

Luca

Luca. I was recently in Italy and picked up Les Amants on EGEA while I was in Perugia. A wonderful CD, very lyrical and string quartet/soprano combination works well with Pieranunzi's compositions.

Haim, I picked up John Taylor's Rosslyn on ECM and enjoy it very much. Very interesting, classicaly influenced but cliche-free playing. I may try to hunt down his solo record on the Sketch label, which I understand has folded recently.
