Hydra:Fuse

Posted by: Richard P on 29 February 2004

Hi
Can I replace the 13 Amp fuse in my Grahams' Hydra for a higher-rated one, or remove it completely? To remove it completely, what can I replace it with?

Thanx

It's still within the IEE regulations to use an old fashioned 15 amp round pin plug and socket (afaict). These are conveniently fuseless and are generally regarded to have a better contact area on the pins.

DO NOT replace the 13A fuse with a higher rated one.
Assuming your spur/curcuit breaker is rated at 32A or whatever, that's a hell of a safety risk if you were to change the 13A fuse.
Safety is paramount!

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

I assume all the kit has its own fuses?
If so then surely all the 13a is protecting is the lead?

Personally I wouldn't piddle about with the fuses.
I'd rather be just short of Hi-Fi heaven than in the real one!

Hi

If you have a spur for each componant with a 16amp MCB in the consumer unit the 13amp fuse is not needed. The 16amp MCB will trip long before the 13amp fuse cuts the power.
This setup is of course a big sonic upgrade as well.
