Does HiCap need ventilation ....

Posted by: JamH on 17 February 2004

Hello,

I have a new pre-amp with a HiCap and have the option of putting it in a closed [large] box. Is this safe [I will bore you at the end of the message with the -- you can skip -- details].

Does it produce much heat [my intention is to leave it on all the time].

Thanks ...

James

P.S.

More details ....

Basically I have a sort of bookcase with layers of vinyl and CD's with my hi-fi on the top [I know about racks but they are not practical in my room].

The 'bookcase' is 18-inches [45-cm] deep so I could put the HiCap on a lower shelf with the CD's in front of it [so it would be basically in a closed box]. There would be a lot of empty space ...

Basically ... is this safe ....

The alternative is everything on the top and everything beside each other and wood starting to bend with the weight.

I've had HiCap powering various items (62, 82, Headline) and they don't seem to get hot at all. So it may be worth a try. But check case temp after a heavy session just to be sure.
