HDMI vs Component

Posted by: Brucie on 04 July 2008

If one is connecting a projector say to a DVD player then does an HDMI cable still have advantages over a compnent cable? I ask since the audio output along the HDMI is not needed.

Does perhaps a good QED component cable produce just as good video as a good QED HDMI?

thanks,
Bruce

I think I've been stupid. I forgot that component can't handle HD signal.

OK so are there any recommendations for a decent HDMI cable? I see the Chord Silver 1.3 is highly praised.

Perhaps you have mistaken composite (only 1 plug, bad quality) with component (3 plugs, good quality)?

Component can handle HD signals up to 1080i, but not 1080p or higher. In Japan and US they have HDTV much longer than HDMI exists.

But since component has no HDCP, they can make this output scale down to standard resolution, or even switch it off completely... It depends who is the rights owner of the content.

In the long run, you'll be better off with HDMI.

Please see Recommendations for an HDMI cable, I couldn't tell a £20 from an £80 HDMI cable.
