Bummer.

A rare, unique talent.

Never heard of him. RIP anyway.

Saw them around 1980 at the Fan Club in Leeds and thought they were great on stage, despite Lux having a thing about showing his knob a lot. Poison Ivy was a fantastic pantomime bad ass sidekick, with Bryan Gregory chain smoking from a supply pre lit stuck onto the strings on his guitar, with Nick Knox beating hell out the drums.

Bought "Songs the Lord Taught Us" on the strength of the gig and it has only ever been played twice I think, truly dreadful. I little surprised he made it to 60 to be honest.

Regards

Great band, great attitude, great image. Very loungey, very sleazy - superb and a band of their time. Saw them at the Newcastle Mayfair and they did what it said on the box (or bottle). Altogether now fffar far far far fa Surfin Bird

Aaah, the Fan Club... The Skyrack.. The Original Oak... Leeds Uni?

That was the incarnation of The Cramps I saw; great, great fun. Nick Knox - best name ever for a drummer, "with the history of the big beat on the back of his hand..."

I was not at Leeds University, but a number of my school mates were, hence I was a frequent visitor and a paid up member of the Fan Club.

Saw loads of great bands there, back when you could have a pint with the band before and after they went on stage.

The Faversham was a regular pub haunt with various members of the March Violets and the Sisters of Mercy.

ah Nic I adored the Sisters of Mercy but alas never got to see them. Alice, Temple of Love, heaven on a slab of vinyl.

The Fav was my favourite pub ever, Jim the dancing barman and a juke box with T-Rex and the B-52's... I beat Lawrence from the Violets to a really neat tweed suit at a jumble sale once. Did you know a Lucy Thompson?

Anyway, The Cramps actually played a State Mental Hospital.

Genius.

Frown We suddenly seem to be losing a great number of musicians and characters and I'm wondering who is going to replace them...

TMP,

Not sure I ever met a Lucy Thomson, but I did used to knock about with Simon Denbigh from the March Violets a lot. Not one of my best photos, but not a bad one of Simon!

So true Von, it does seem to have been a particularly hard winter.
In a similar vein I watched 'Control' last night, a film on the life and times of Ian Curtis (Joy Division). Based on a book by his wife. Don't know how acurate the storyline is but musically worth a watch.
