Too much vinyl and moldy record sleeves

Posted by: shoot6x7 on 25 July 2009

Well, my vinyl collection has grown by about three-hundred albums ...

A friend's ex-room-mate abandoned his collection and after two years she was ready to toss them.

I took the remainder after some guy of kijiji took about half.

There are some real winners like Beethoven, especially the Glen Gould ones, Sibelius. Mahler, Mozart, Hayden, etc...

There were some really moldy numbers which I'm going to toss the sleeves and wash the vinyl.

This got me thinking, is it worth doing ? Or should I just pick the cleanest, best recordings and just toss the rest, especially the moldy ones ?

Thanks ...
Ron

George is wrong!!!!!! The Gould Beethoven is the funniest thing you will ever hear. I keep mine for when I get in a rut. 5 minutes of Gould doing Beethoven and I am laughing my ass off.

But don't do ten minutes. It's not THAT funny.

Okay, I'll act the dumb Canadian, is Glen Gould not taken seriously outside of Canada ?

Horowitz and Anton Kuerti I really like, so I shouldn't like Gould ?

I love Gould on Bach, and I have him playing Brahms Intermezzi that are sublime. But I find his Beethoven a gross distortion, so bad I can't believe he meant it - or he hates Beethoven that much. IMO stay away from the Mozart too; he plays it like it's Wagner :-)
