A new nap250, wow!!!

"but f..."

my one week old nap250 has burned the right side off. The problem is, there has bin a quite loud mains hum coming from the power supplie inside the nap250. Quite loud when the room is quiet. Why????
My olive nap180 was much better, it has worked for 4 straight years. I want it back!!!

I want to deliver the nap250 back to my dealer, what do I tell him?

And the nac282 is a big dissapointment!!!

Any help much appreciated.

Not quite sure what you mean here?

Has the 250 stopped working? melted? Right channel faulty?

If so then there obviouly a faulty 250 sould have prevented a true evaluation of the 282 I would have thought.

The new boxes do seem to be more prone to hum than the old boxes, the transformers are significantly larger, but if shouldn't be so loaud as to be intrusive.

Kent, You need to contact your dealer asap, get the amp checked!! It is also a good idea to have the whole wiring of your system checked.

I do not understand you do not know what to tell your dealer, if you bought it from him I am sure he will come to your service.

As for the hum, I found that the hum reduces significantly after a couple of days when the components have warmed up. It lowers to a much more acceptable degree. Another benefit of the new components is that the residual hum does not seem to change pitch. One of the things that irritated me about the olive range was that the hum would fluctuate.

Frank.

I have a new 250(3 month old), it didn't hum in the first 2 months, until recently upgraded to supercap2 and cdx2, it start to hum, but not all the time.

You are lucky. Mine hummed from day 1 and it certainly detects when the washing machine and /or the tumble drier motor is on.
However that said it is as Frank described "residual". You don't notice it at all when you are where you sit and of course when the music is playing, which matters most.
