tree surgery

Anyone know how much a 'typical' charge is to cut back a 40ft tree and take away the wood? I've no idea of a ballpark even...

Thanks

I had 2 leylandai, approx 30-40ft tall cut down & disposed of last year. Approx £120 iirc.

A contorted willow that's grown much bigger than it was supposed to - reduce by half?

Like manicatel we had a 35 ft Leylandi down to a stump, £140 I seem to recall.

Leyandi are a little cheaper - living in West London you would be lucky to get away with less tan £300

Hi Jamie,
I live about 25miles from you in St. Neots.
I've always used Alan Linger - a QUALIFIED TREE SURGEON who lives localy.
His rates are very reasonable, he takes everything away, and he is fully insured, ie NOT A COWBOY.
You will find him in the P' Borough directory and yellow pages.
HTH,

I wanted to be a tree surgeon but I could not stand the sight of sap.

I have a Horticulture degree and a licensed professional knows how to cut it so it's not just a stump. Well worth the money. I love pruning but the willow is a brittle tree and can crack on you and if left on its own will get even bigger. Reducing the leaf count slows growth. Having it done every few years now that it's big is a good idea. Also big trees tend to blow over as they act like sails in storms and branches break.
