Paris hotel recommendation please?

Posted by: Phil Cork on 15 April 2008

My Fiancee and I are planning a trip to NE France (Champagne!) in June and will get the train from Reims to Paris for a few days midweek.

We're looking for somewhere to stay near the centre, ideally close to the Seine, although we don't mind staying further out for a particularly nice experience.

A look through many of the websites dealing with hotels seems to suggest it's a bit of a lottery in terms of the rooms not being tiny or grotty, so i was wondering if the kind people of this forum could suggest somewhere...

We're happy to spend, say, up to 200 Euros, although we could push that a little for something special.

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Hotel de Lille in the 5th. Near Musee d'Orsay, across the Seine from the Louvre and close enough to other major attractions to walk. Not expensive and the rooms are not large but since you're on your honeymoon there will be little time spent in the room and hardly even any sleeping.

Hotel Warwick 5* - not by the river - but 2 mins from Champes Elysee - they have a very good restaurant - best rate through Cresta. 2 nights get 3rd free

For Champagne - best hotel in centre of Riems is Hotel de la Paix - plenty of good local restaurants on main street - best brasserie is Petite Comptoir around 5 min walk

I can recommend the St James and Albany on the Rue De Rivoli.

Its location is ideal. Facing the Garden of Tuileries, 300m from the seine, bang in the centre. 30m from a Metro station, although most attractions are within walking distance.

The website indicates the standard rooms are very small. We stayed in a superior room, it was spacious and newly decorated

As an area, personally, I love the 6th - Cluny, Sorbonne, the extraordinary church of St Etienne du Mont (where Durufle was organist), Jardin de Luxembourg etc. And some fabulous and not expensive restaurants in the streets gently winding down the hill to the river and Notre Dame.

Hotel Le Clos Medicis
56 Rue Monsieur Le Prince

Metro : Cluny-la-Sorbonne

Thanks all for your help.

Some of the hotels suggested had less than favourable reviews on tripadvisor (which i find very useful), so we settled on somewhere just near the arc de triomphe, which looks very reasonable, and had great reviews. I don't have the name to hand but will post when i get it.

If course, the Hilton would have excellent reviews, but my budget, and my Hilton Honours reward points didn't stretch to it!

We're staying at Parva Domus in Epernay for the Champagne part of the trip - again, excellent reviews:

Just need somewhere for the first night (Parva Domus can't do the first night), so will try Hotel de la Paix, thanks Antony.

Cheers,

Phil

Paris hotel is Royal Magda Etoile in the 8th.

We decided that the small number of negative comments were reasonably rare one off experiences, and were more than outweighed by the positive comments.

Thanks again,

Phil

hehe. That's funny. Took the parents there last May and was going to suggest it but could not remember the name. It's good and very reasonable!
