Did this forum lose its punch?

Few years ago, there was no title " " FORUM RULES - Please Read & Follow."." and the forum was much more "alive". I remember the very "hot" argues like about steps that were taken by Naim - like the new shape, like argues about the directionality of a... fuse, articles and photos about modification to Naim equipment, Vuk claiming that the Fraim is based on his idea, members telling that Mana rack is a better upgrade than going from 82/180 to 52/250. all around, things were much more "sparkling".
I read this forum almost on daily base - but I can't "feel" it like before. Adam's rules are kept well but the liveliness that is one of the very best feature of my Naim system - is lost in the Naim forum.
The forum seems to be like a branch of the Naim spoke man. Many times I ask myself - why to hell this member doesn't ask Naim this question? They answer quickly, in details and they are very polite. For sure they have the best knowledge about their own equipment.
Many people are asking about Naim on other forums (few are asking the same question in both forums). The idea is that on other forums the answers are more objective. I don't think that it is a good idea for Naim and for this forum to keep hard rules here and let the "open" world (people who can think about other pieces of equipment but Naim) thinking that this is not the place of receiving "true" answers about Naim and its competition in the view of Naim's lovers.
Reading other forums makes me believe that I'm not the only person on earth who thinks so.
So I'm asking Adam: Lose the rules in a way that will keep this forum as a Naim one but will bring life back to this place.
And if my feelings are not true, nothing happens. I will not relate too seriously to this forum but I'll stay with my Naim system and with the thought and feeling that Naim are manufacturing great stereo systems and not so great forum to chat about their products in.

The way I saw the older days were through reading old threads, catching the end of that era as I started reading in late 2003 before signing up a year later and watching the rise of the other forum from the ashes of those argumentative contributers. To me it was just a smaller member base that had a few loud voices that loved to push their opinion onto others in the thinly disguised notion of a debate, you still see it on other fora today you only have to go back to the start of the present forum to see the "debates" that were had over things like Mana, Phono Connections, the "new" Naim sound, forgetting their (Naim) roots, flat Earth, round earth etc... to see that they were in essence just arguments with people throwing their toys out of their prams, but and this is it WE ALL LOVE WATCHING A TRAIN WRECK happening and that was the excitement. I do not wish to go back to that as I feel the Naim forum has evolved into a more friendly and inviting place to discuss a multitude of things and as I have recently demonstrated, to let off steam hopefully in a jovial way while helping newbies to sort through the myriad of different views expressed.

Just visit a certain forum and you'll see the same shit happening just on a different day, Bub's been let back in I see as well. Some people find that exciting and at first it is but it soon for me turns into tediousness when you find yourself reading another 20 page thread about why something is shit and what I do is great.

SJB,
You're right. I hadn't really thought about it, but this kind of private business seems out of place in a public forum. Stop saying you're going to phone them and phone them, people!
Too right!

The big difference between here and other places is that this feels more like home; I read a lot elsewhere but mainly post here. Just feel more comfortable contributing here. I think that is something we shouldn't lose sight of.

I know what you mean. I think there was a blend of different personalities on the Naim forum at one time that worked well - if you just put all the more extreme people in one place it's not necessarily the same.
As far as reading old threads goes, I think you would have had to be taking part at the time for it to be much fun.

Noted.
Perhaps I should ask if I can rejoin; there are some subjects that cannot be discussed here out of politeness to our hosts and I actually liked posting there.
James is often hilarious.

That's true too. Doesn't mean that nothing changes or that the good old days weren't better.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
Remember when we were allowed to award feedback points for new threads - 5 ticks and you felt so good

Cheers

Very interesting thread.
I can agree with most what you said and I also feel that forum is bleached. I am actually quite shocked how many people here which upgrade to reference series doesn't know to explain even the most basic things and explain themself about what for example their new kit offers in order to ex rig. I mostly read they say 'more bass, more soundstage and extended treble'. People spit thousands of some money and doesn't understand what they have in front of them. I am not from English language country, but damn how I miss those highly eloquent texts written by the ex members mentioned earlier in this thread.
Back on the Naim forum rules, I completely understand the politics, they care about themself and they do not want to allow anyone to ruin that here. Naim don't want to hide they want more and more money, why not, everyone wants money, also, I apreciate that Naim saves us from disguisting marketing cliche 'we all make this just for you', but.. I would be thankfull if moderators would save us from absolutely sensless comments by some people here. There is a loads of (I really must use that word) crap here in last few years that sometimes I catch even myself stupid just to read all that. As a vaccine for that I recommend a more democratic approach and tolerance for some members who still have a willingness to explain what is right and what is wrong, that's normal and that is not a conflict like some may understand. If someone is stupid, noone but him is guilty for his stupidity. I understand that it's not such a popular thing to call someone stupid, but please forgive me, I just want to explain things how they are.
There are no different times, just different people.

May I be so brave as to suggest that those who are bemoaning the lacklustre nature of this place, do something about it and get a few threads going that they think with put back what they think is missing.

I think an enema can be described as one hell of a relief, or so I have been told.

Your analysis is quite correct.
The procedure would be entirely appropriate.
