HDX random shut downs

Posted by: wheely on 26 January 2009

I purchased the Naim HDX in November from my local dealer (Soundcraft Hifi), after about 4 weeks I had the odd random shutting down with the naim logo coming up and states “please wait”. Things got worse on the 16th January when playing an album track the hdx sounded like a stuck track repeating the same piece of music (like a scratch record) again and again. After this the HDX would not start up, all I got was a naim logo and “please wait” flashing on and off. I left the unit all night and in the morning still the same screen so i phoned my local dealer and they told me to bring it in, which i did. After they had it for a full week i finally received a phone call from my dealer stating it was fixed (i phoned a few times to find out whats happening) they got a zip file or something and rebuilt the database. The random shut downs have started again today, has any one else had this problem?

On HD capacity, Naim says it is the best ratio of: acoustic noise, vibration, noise induced into power supply, reliability vs capacity they have found.
And you know even if they had put 1TB, we would complain, so...
Into a networked environment your NAS may be into an other room, so the noises figures are not important.
