woops , dont move speakers

Posted by: DAVOhorn on 09 February 2003

Anyway, i had some work done in the lounge which necessitated moving the Horn speakers from theyre corner position. Had to pull out the speaker cable as well.

Anyway work completed lounge cleaned and vacced .
Time to put back speakers , reconnect the speaker cable push the horns back into the corner position check measure the position of them using tape measure.

Receive new (2nd hand) valve ampo plug in and hey presto pretty goood. Image not as good as other amp though.

Listen for a few days get friends round who say image not too good bass a bit soft but hey pretty good.

Any way plugged in previous amp and image all to pot !!!!!!!!????????????

check connections on amps ok .

I know get out test disc for speaker set up.

Track 2 for image

Sound should be no image but image excellent .

YEP YOU GOT IT one speaker out of phase !!!!!!!!!

So pull out speakers and check connections and there it is the left loudspeaker is out of phase DAMNATION ETC ETC.

So correctly wired up, back in place etc .

Test disc in Yippppeeeeee lovely image .

Put little amp back in and wow pretty good.

With horns the bass is not as screwed up when speaker out of phase compared to normal speakers so little loss of bass when out of phase.

Now everything is as it shoiuld be.

And if i say so myself lovely sound. The new little amp is wonderful.

Got some NAIM buddies to come over soon and criticise the living daylights out of it.
Should be fun.

Moral of the story is to double check all connections when you pull your system apart and then put it back together again.
